I used the frunk on my 2024 once, when I first got the car. But after driving non-frunk ICE cars for 55 years, it simply doesn’t enter my consciousness. Still, I know it’s there, and that I could use it whenever I choose to, and so I don’t like that it has shrunk to near uselessness in the 2025 model.

As I understand it, back when he had a more altruistic bent, Musk offered virtually all of his technology to other automakers for free, both so that he could help advance the EV as a counter-measure to climate change, and also to broaden EV acceptance, which he then could capitalize on given his (then) lead in the industry. So Ford could have used the octo-valve concept to simplify their own heat-pump design and perhaps not have to steal so much volume from the frunk. At the same time, they would have improved the reliability of future MMEs by having adopted a proven system design with fewer parts to fail. Evidently ego and hubris drove their engineers to adopt the dreaded NIH attitude.
Elon wasn’t altruistically offering other automakers free use of Tesla’s intellectual property. He was offering use in exchange for free use of legacy automakers’ intellectual property (if it was even an actual offer instead of a publicity stunt). Whether Ford should have taken him up on the offer is debatable, but it wasn’t pure hubris that drove Ford to reinvent the wheel.

I hope you enjoy the Cadillac!

Funny how the thread morphed into a Frunk thread. ?

I thought the Frunk wasn't something that would ever matter to me. And I'm still not someone who would eliminate a choice because of the Frunk. But I absolutely would miss it as I turned into a frequent frunker.

By the way, I dont slam the Frunk closed. Just hearing that described gives me the heebiejeebies. Just lower the Frunk gently past the first click. Then place your palms near the front center and give it a firm push. It latches nicely and without drama.

I think Ford HAS to address their too firm suspension eventually.....Tesla did for their revamped Model Y (2025). Cadillac has their typical Cushy ride. Hyundai / Kia feels "normal" in my opinion.

I can't speak for the GTPE with the magna ride as I've never experienced it.......but what I've gleaned from 4 years on the Forum is it is "better" but not Fantastic.....

Just like the OP, as many of us who could afford this car in the early years, and I'm painting with a broad brush here, are probably in our 50's and 60's. So, I think you will see the older ones of us migrating to a ride with a smoother suspension on our 2nd or 3rd EV. I absolutely love my 2021 MME but as I'm now closer to 60 than 50, I too have thought about the Lyriq. My plan is to keep the MME for another few years, so Maybe the Ford engineers will have time to give me a cushier ride!

What keeps me from running to the Lyriq now?:
1. I'm a Frunk Guy....come on Cadillac, there is a lot of space there redesign it!!!
2. No Apple Car Play?!?! Give the customers what they want!!!!
3. No Lane Centering without Cruise control (just like the Mach E)......For those of you who have not driven a Hyundai/Kia with lane Centering around town without Cruise control......It's pretty darn flawless.......Now I understand the 2025 Cadillac Vistiq has it, does the Lyriq? And is it as good as Hyundai/Kia? **Why has Hyundai/Kia not given us hands free on the Highway though???

ok, my rant is over; everyone have a great day!!!
Hyundai/kia have also failed to crack the advanced technology needed to implement a frunk. And they found some discarded OG iPhones that they scavenged for their minuscule displays.

Congrats, best of luck!

No frunk, no carplay, NO Cadillac.
Also, to be honest, 4.8 seconds 0-60 seems pretty anemic (yes, yes, I know that’s the time on my Premium eAWD, that’s why my next one will be a GT).

I really disagree with this. I just spent 3 weeks driving a (rental) 2024 Hyundai Tuscon and I found their lane keeping to be outright dangerous. I'd suddenly find myself veering out of my lane and glance down to see the little green steering wheel icon turned white. No beeps or audible warnings. Just a tiny icon on the console changing color.

The really dangerous part was that the car would actually pull itself out of the lane before disengaging the lane keeping thing. I would have to fight with the steering wheel to stay in my lane. I learned very quickly to keep that turned off.
Yes!!!

I see exactly the same thing when I drive a BMW X5 with lane keeping assist. Even a tesla isn't quite as solid as the Ford. It's amazing how much I have come to rely on it. It's like driving next to my father when I was 16. He just reaches over and steers the car when I don't quite keep it straight.

I'm trading in my FE and heading for an old man (which I am) Cadillac; the Lyriq EV. Thanks to all for your advice as we navigated the unknown waters of an early Ford EV. Thanks to Ford for jumping in when things really got bad. My wife has planned an east coast trip and I think I will like the ride better.
Stop on by in a month or three and let us know how the new ride compares. Good Luck!

If folks have to slam the frunk closed, they also probably need to adjust the bumpers up a bit. That, and closing it as you suggest, will resolve 90% of the frunk closure trauma. ;)

We tried the Lyriq and Optiq and found the ride quality to be excellent but the seats weren't as comfy to us.
After 3 weeks and a 2.000 trip, I agree. They need to make them an inch or two wider, but it keeps me awake.

Okay, I'll give you what I like and what I don't.
The ride and quietness are much better. The pickup is about the same on paper but feels more intense. The seats could be more comfortable.
The range appears to be better than the specs would indicate. It has a bigger battery. The Tesla chargers worked flawlessly with the adapter. I could use any super charger, although the cord was short and I had to take up 2 spaces for some of them. Charging to 85% results in the GOM reporting over 300 miles. I'll see what happens in the winter

The braking is exceptionally smooth. There is what appears to be a paddle shifter on the left side of the steering wheel but it is actually a variable regen paddle. Really cool.

The thing is huge and weighs almost 1,000 pounds more than my FE.

The car came with the 19.2Kw internal workings and you can hook it up so it will power your house for a ton more money.

The screens are customizable, but I haven't figured it all out.

There is no PAAK and the FOB is too big and heavy. I miss PAAK. There is no frunk and the nice cover over the guts has been deleted for 2025 as has the logo puddle light. Mustang is a sports car and this is a luxury (read expensive) SUV. Gone is the HD radio. It does have CarPlay, but it plays better with Google.

The hands free hatch release and closure works great. The 2021 Mustang only worked if I didn't have anything in my hands.

The AKG sound system is a little too bassy, but the active noise cancellation works well.

Bottom line, it still qualifies for the $7.,500 tax credit, but it may be gone at tax time. Finance at 2.9% for 60 months works for me instead of robbing my retirement fund.

All in all, I'm happy I made the switch. It's fun learning stuff on a new toy.

Cool. Nothing worse than making a trade and then regretting it. Nothing is perfect, of course, but I'm glad to hear it's working out.
