I wondered if others are seeing this strange behavior in Google Maps via Car Play or if it's just me doing something wrong.

On my iPhone X running iOS 14.7.1 by itself, Google Maps works great. It orients to the direction the phone is facing and gives good navigation directions. However, when connected to the MME using Car Play, the blue orientation arrow faces 90-degrees right from the orientation of the phone and this does not change if I move the phone around. The display on the MME screen constantly thinks I am on streets I am not on, and if I use the nav function it thinks I have made a turn to the right when I have not.

I have tried calibrating the phone compass (like I said, everything works like it should when not connected to the car) and I have tried removing and reinstalling all software.

Are others seeing this? Is it a Car Play or Google issue, or an issue in the MME interface perhaps?

Not sure if I'm following.. But I have an issue with mine where it just won't update the map right. So it will be way zoomed out, and if I drive outside of that view it still just sits there without updating. Only way I've gotten it to fix is to put in a location, then it will track correctly.

I've noticed if you manually zoom out or in it causes this issue to happen I think its a carplay issue.

I am having exactly the same issue with two different phones (iPhone 11 and 12, current software). Both work just fine when not connected to CarPlay. Did you ever get this resolved? If you did, how? I've done all the GPS recalibration stuff and nothing helps. I'm not sure if I should be seeking help from Ford or Apple.

No solution yet. My MME has Power Up 1.7.1 and the iPhone is at iOS 15.1. Same behavior.

I use Waze or google maps via wireless CarPlay.
Same issues since 1.7.1.

I sometimes get this too. See here for a video of the behavior, it's clearly a carplay bug not one specific to Google maps. This video is from apple maps.

Thanks for the update. Sounds like this could be more on the Ford end than the Apple end, if it started for some people with Power Up 1.7.1.

Has anyone worked out a solution for this? I have started seeing the same issue randomly appear. Any GPS software running through CarPlay seems to be affected when the issue is occurring, the gps signal seems to jump around, skip, snap to other streets, display the wrong speed, etc. however the built in Ford nav works fine even when that’s happening with CarPlay.

I have also noticed that in this car it doesn’t automatically show the vehicles location, in Waze I need to open the software up and click the arrow icon to track the vehicles location so it follows the car…this is intermittent as sometimes it will work correctly.

I never was able to do anything to fix it, but it magically started working without this error. I figure it must have been fixed as a result of a s/w update from Ford or Apple. Not sure.

A friend works for a nav company and he was with me in the car when this started to happen. He suggested I put the phone on the armrest instead of the charging pad. That immediately fixed it. It is not a constant thing but has to do with how well the satellite reception is coming in. I suspect the roof is attenuating the signal and it can get worse with heavy cloud cover. I usually leave the phone in my pocket as I mostly take short trips, and no issue there.

The reason the native NAV doesn't experience this is because the GPS antenna used by that is in the shark fin on the roof.

This doesn't sound right to me... As far as I knew, Android Auto gets the connected vehicle's data for location and orientation data, not the phone's GPS receiver.

Maybe it's different on iPhone. ?

Cannot assume that's where the GPS antenna is located. The last two Honda vehicles I purchased had their GPS antennas under the dashboard.

Google Maps via Android Auto works just fine with heads unit that have no GPS receivers. On the other hand, if location service is turned off on the phone Google Maps won't work in Android Auto - I found that out by accident the other day.

The position or location of my iphone makes no difference, the error persists.
