I swear, I probably will have this screen up most of the time when commuting to work. When I used a portable GPS unit some 20+ years ago, this was one of the screens I had up all the time. Nice to have access to it again. IPhone doesn’t expose this information, and my 2012 and newer Toyota’s wouldn’t give me access, either.

The info will not come up unless you are stopped.

The aviation community utilizes GPS signals for enroute and approach operations everyday. The GPS signals, along with accompanying ground stations, do degrade from time to time. Pilots are required to check conditions for one hour before and after their arrival on GPS approaches via the Receiver Autonomous Integrity Monitoring (RAIM) System for outages.

Simply put--sometimes GPS does "get funny." Additionally, Selective Availability (SA) is usually off; however, it can be flipped on at anytime. I checked today, and as of yesterday, per the FAA, SA is off.

All this being said--I think it's safe to go to the grocery store today.

Let’s just clear some stuff up here: per the United States Government (you know, the people who built and actually operate GPS), the decision was made 20 years ago to no longer use Selective Availability. Later blocks of GPS satellites do not even have Selective Availability capability. For all practical purposes, Selective Availability is just not a thing. Now, could the government turn off the GPS system, or turn off GPS service entirely over a certain geographic area? I suppose it’s possible. All the spacecraft I’ve worked on have had the capability to issue commands to turn on and off various payloads - why should GPS satellites be any different?
Now, let’s all get back to wondering when the PowerUp that enables remote Frunk opening will be released. That’s a lot more interesting than GPS conspiracies ???

Will the frunk button be location dependent like charging? If GPS reception is poor will my shrimp cocktail and wings be unreachable?

Well, this is a new one! I've had this GPS being off by x amount issue exactly one day before, but I just barely had to drive where the GPS didn't work at all! It just had me Frozen in a single location for the whole drive.

During the same drive I also got the warning that says speed sign recognition unavailable... I don't know if these things are related but very fishy indeed

Can you send us your VIN, dealer, precise location within 5m (don't move by the way), and favorite flavor of ice cream, and we'll think about maybe getting back to you
Cherry Garcia. Or maybe a really good dark chocolate fudge from Baskin Robbins.
