I'm sure this is covered somewhere but yesterday ran my GTPE down to 0% and 1 mile range to see what happens. Noticed that the gray bars were about as many as I have ever seen, what do they mean? Are they just telling you how much of your battery is gone or do they refer to something else?

They are showing you unavailable power. It's limited the power available to you because you have depleted the battery "to see what happens". o_O

Just curious, what were your expectations for when you depleted a battery? You ever had to change batteries in a remote control? ;)

Don't ask. Why did you ask?

From what I understand, the 'bars' represent the power level available to the driver. (I don't have those bars in my car so I am speculating from what I've read in the workshop manual....)
If my understanding is correct, and we pretend there are 5 bars. Fully green bars would equate to full kW or HP (whatever you prefer). If your car has 700 hp then all would be available if all bars are green. Grey bars means your available HP is limited.....so maybe 1 grey bar might mean only 600 hp. All grey bars might mean only 100 hp or pretty close to what we used to call "limp mode".

Does that help?

Guess I just want to know if it will run down to that if a person gets into that bind and apparently it will and was still running normal, never checked but I assume there was very limited power.

I'm on board with the experiment, and glad you did it so I don't have to. I am curious, though - what was your exit plan? If it had just conked out somewhere, how were you planning to get mobile again? Bring out a generator and hang out on the highway for an hour?

Honestly curious - the dog catches car element is high in this experiment.

Would have probably pulled home, less than half mile. From what I read it says it can be towed 50 miles at 35mph, don't want to ever do that. Do have a welder on our service truck with a 20 amp 1450 plug so might have tried that also.
