GT Tires

I will say as a soon to be GTPE owner, my winter tires are on their way to the dealership to install. While it does suck to have to buy a second set of tires, it will prolong the life of the other set. In theory I will get more time from my summer tires because I put winter tires on during the winter. So if you keep the car long-term it actually doesn't cost that much more and in fact buying the tires today it would probably be cheaper than if I bought a new set for my car in two to three years. I was going to just put on all seasons and sell the summer tires but as I looked into it, I now plan to keep it them as it made sense to have a dedicated winter set, and a dedicated Summer set. I usually put my snow tires on in late October to early November and take them off sometime in March, so that's 5 months less wear on the summer tires each year. I will note my snow tires are less expensive than my summer tires to replace right now. So yes it may be more upfront but over the life of the car I don't think that's the case.

Did you get a second set of rims as well? If so, which ones did you land on?

I just put the snow tires on the stock rims, I'm going to keep an eye out for some used performance edition rims and if I see them I'll pick them up and put whatever is not on the car on them.

I will I have snow tires and wheels for my other car, I will say it's much easier to transport tires throughout the rims than it is tires and rims. And the cost of rims will cover a few tire changes, so I may never end up picking up those used rims. We'll see time will tell.

Thanks for the replies. It turns out the answer is I'm just blind. After seeing @RickMachE's photo, I looked at my tires again, and the "M + S" was right there. I don't know why I couldn't find it other times I looked. Interesting though, your photo shows Michelin tires, but mine came with Continentals.




Not the only reason. Mostly it was cost. There are many discussions here about whether Magneride is worth it or not, or even noticeable or not. Since I liked the GT ride, and wasn't able to test the GTPE ride before ordering, and I knew it didn't make a difference for some, I didn't think it was worth the extra 5-6k. And on top of that, I didn't want the additional hassle and expense of needing to get brand new tires for an already brand new car. We do have cold weather here, especially going across the mountains, so all-season tires is not a cost I could defer.

I had similar reasons for going with the GT. My wife has a Model Y performance and didn’t want to store / swap for another set of tires.

I know this is an old thread, but I found it interesting because there were multiple people from the PNW (like myself), and I was about to buy some new tires for my GT. I TOO bought a GT instead of the GTPE because I did not have a lot of interest in paying a ton of money up front for new tires (when I was receiving the vehicle in the winter), and already buying an expensive car.

I also didn't have room in my small, full garage for a whole second set of tires and rims, and I wasn't going to get a storage unit for them. The GT is still expensive, but at some point you gotta draw a line. That's where I drew it. It was interesting to see others drew it in the same place.

Also to OP's note about Continental Tires vs. Michelin. I have the Continentals as well. My vehicle is a 2021 GT. I wonder if they changed to Michelin at some point. I wish I knew what the stock Continentals were on my GT so I could find some good comparisons with them for my new purchase.

Unfortunately , the GT’s Continental CrossContactRX don’t have much in the way of reviews out there. Ford thought it was the best balance of performance and efficiency for the GT. I think it’s still the same tire on the 24’s.
