I notice that we are talking about the differences between and preferences for different charge planning apps. The original question from @ChasingCoral was: “when will superchargers show in Ford’s route planning tool?”

I likewise notice that we are four or five pages in without any answer from @Ford Motor Company.

If my car has ever preconditioned, I've never noticed. I think that's how it's supposed to work, right? An automatic function not a manual one?

Sadly, I think it’s going to take much longer than it took for me to download A Better Route Planner and begin using it.
I found out today that you have to subscribe to ABRP ? May as well just subscribe to Connected Navigation.

You do not have to subscribe to use ABRP. But, you have to subscribe to use it with CarPlay. You also get live weather adjustments, real-time traffic, multiple vehicle support, and a few other things. I subscribe for the months I'm planning or undertaking overnight road trips. It's good value for money. But, I use it to investigate some trips even when I'm not paying for the subscription.

I will probably also subscribe to Connected Navigation when my free trial expires, but not if they don't put Tesla Superchargers into Connected Navigation.

Maybe I just need to write the press release. It probably sounds something like the below, which is 100% NOT from Ford Motor Company.
---------------------------------
Ford Motor Company is committed to its customers and its vehicles. When something goes wrong, we seek to make it right. We ask ourselves, "What must be true to keep our promise to customers?"

A little over a year ago, we saw our customers struggling with DC Fast Charging. We negotiated to be the first non-Tesla brand to charge on Superchargers, and we kept our promise by sending adapters to all current and 2024 buyers of Mustang Mach E and F-150 Lightning trucks. When one supplier was struggling to keep up with demand, we added another. In less than one year, we shipped adapters to all eligible owners.

As of this writing, Ford Connected Navigation does not currently route our drivers to Superchargers. We are, however, actively working on the problem with our software suppliers. Model year 2025 vehicles ship with Connected Navigation that routes you to Tesla Superchargers. For model year 2024 and earlier, we recommend that you use Apple Maps or Google Maps. Both will route you to Superchargers when you properly configure the app.

We plan to add the Tesla Superchargers to Connected Navigation in the second half of 2025 based on the learning cycles from 2025 models.
-------------------------------------

@Ford Motor Company , I see the software struggles:
https://www.reuters.com/business/au...velop-tesla-like-electronic-brain-2025-04-30/

https://insideevs.com/features/759153/car-companies-software-companies/

I knew what I was buying in the metal, and I'm heartened to see the transparency on the broader level, but I was hoping for more transparency on specifics. Everyone on this thread knows that Tesla / Rivian had the advantages (and disadvantages) of "fresh start." Your own CEO is on Fully Charged Show talking about the complexity of the software Balkans.

My GM vehicle has Google maps built in. Two weeks after GM got access to Tesla chargers, Google pushed an update to the maps that added Tesla chargers (compatible ones of course). This update happened without an OTA, the Google apps in the vehicle update automatically every few weeks, just like phone apps.

I can plan my trips on my iPhone, using Google maps and send it to my truck, works great, extremely accurate on SoC predictions and charging targets at stops.
This is what I get using Google Maps and Android Auto (and my partner gets with Google Maps + CarPlay - but she doesn't get prediction to destination).

because I don't want to have to use carplay... I expect the built in app to work.
Expectations differ I suppose.

I have never, ever in all my years expected car manufacturer nav to be competent.

I've bought garmin devices (pre-smart phone), I've had tablets connected to the "12v port", now I use Google Maps and ABRP.

Does the GM system show the prices at DCFC chargers that you route to or do you need to use Plugshare? I've been surprised with a station at $.75/kw and I now check when I plan a route.

They do not show prices, but they do have a rating system, like Plugshare.

Bumping because this is on my mind. Non-car-nut-spouse is taking the Mach-E on a one-charge trip to visit a friend. I started to say, "use the Ford Navigation," but then realized she'd be missing charging stations, and not just a few.

@Ford Motor Company :

This has become ridiculous. It's been well over a year since we gained access to Tesla Superchargers. The Ford Connected Navigation is a PAID subscription product. We all saw the promo that 2025s have this feature (https://www.macheforum.com/site/threads/announcing-tesla-superchargers-connected-navigation.42532/). Clearly this is technologically possible.
  • When do the rest of us gain the ability to navigate to Tesla Superchargers?
  • When do we get to precondition en route to them?
Many of us here have been quite patient (others not so patient). If Ford were giving us full access to Connected Navigation it would be one thing, but to pay for Connected Navigation and not get this update in over a year shows a real failing in Ford's software groups. Is Ford really not able to negotiate this under your contract with Garmin?

yeah we really need this. Especially since plug-n-charge at Tesla Superchargers is the easiest for non-car-nuts.

In the mean time, it’s your responsibility as her obedient husband to enter the appropriate Tesla locations as Saved Locations in Connected Navigation.

I think there was something about Saved Location in our vows. Need to check that...

My move is just to say, "use Apple Maps and deal with the slower, non-preconditioned charging." The experience has actually made me sensitive to those who say, "give up on the Connected Nav, Ford, and lean on Apple to allow us to opt into location sharing for preconditioning."

We use the Saved Locations, even though now it more of a pain in the ass since Ford removed the charging app. But keep in mind you or she will have to actively add them to the navigation route. They're not recognized as charging location so they aren't automatically added.

Preconditioning isn’t much help (if any) in this weather.
