I just ordered a Mach-e this week. How do I confirm I got the benefit? When do I get in the line of 200K? When I close on the deal?

Yes, it's based on when you purchase the car. The chances are very good that the full $7500 tax credit will be available for the entirety of 2022. You won't actually get the credit until you file your 2022 taxes in 2023.

It will be very public information when the tax credit starts phasing out for Ford, so it won't be difficult to find when the time comes. The current estimate is that Ford may hit the 200k mark in Q3. If that happens, the full credit will remain in place through all of Q4. If they don't hit 200k until Q4, the full credit will remain through Q1 of 2023 as well.

If it reaches 200K in Q3, why would it go thru Q4?

Because that's how the phase out works. The full $7500 remains for the quarter that the limit is reached AND the following quarter. Then the credit is reduced to $3750 for two more quarters. Then the credit is reduce to $1875 for two more quarters after that.

Yep. Which when you think about it, makes sense because they won't even know if a manufacturer hits 200k within the quarter it's hit. They won't know that until after, when the numbers are collected and reported. It would be unfair for buyers early in the next quarter to buy without knowing whether the credit will drop or disappear for that purchase. So they extend it for an extra quarter after it hits the 200k. (The "reporting" quarter, so to speak.)

Thanks! No numbers for 2022 yet.
We're still in 1Q2022 so no numbers would come out until after the quarter. In fact 4Q2021 is still missing, so they're not exactly fast. Government.

But you can do a pretty good projection. The wildcard is the new models that qualify (F-150 Lightning, e-Transit, Escape PHEV). Those will boost that pace of ~7800/qtr quite a bit. But it's still all slow rolling out (thanks to supply chain issues). I'd be surprised if Ford reached 200k sales sooner than 3Q2022 (where the tax credit would drop for 1Q2023).

Sure it is. Ford can’t make the cars/trucks fast enough to reach 200K before June 30th. So even if they reach 200K on July 1st, the full tax credit will remain in effect until December 31st.

Sorry, confused... I thought after it reaches 200K, it goes to $3750 vice the 7500.
