They also use the term "mode 3" and mention a specific kWh. The term "wallbox" is used, which I have only seen from UK/EU forum members. If I had to guess I would say this update is designed to address both L2 charging above 10.5 kW and L3.
To me, the mention of L3 is surprising, since there hasn't been complaints, at least on this forum, of cooling fan noise during DCFC. But with whatever calibration optimization Ford went through to improve the cooling fan calibration for L2, it probably made sense to also take a look at optimizing for L3.

I think the lack of complaints about L3 is because it isn't done at home. I recall reading posts that acknowledged L3 charging fan noise but chalked it up to the vehicle being hot from just coming off the road. ?‍♂

It probably also makes a difference that L3 charging environments are much more open and therefore less reflective of sound than L2 charging in a garage, carport, or driveway

The Technical bulletin refers to " Mode 3" charging, not Level 3. Mode 3 charging is when you hook up to a 3.6 to 22kW wall box (MME can only take 11 I believe?), using the car's internal acdc converter. So in fact this bulletin is about the issue that is described in this thread. No relation to dc fast chargers.

Correct. Europe does not use the term "charging level". It's mode here, and they don't translate.
Mode 2 is AC charging.

The shared bulletin does indeed say "mode 3" at the top. But about halfway down, under the heading "Technical Service Bulletin", it refers to "level 3" ..... this is probably a typo

I have both at home 32A and 48A.
Fairly calm when using the 32A EVSE. Fans run but A/C hardly ever comes on.
48A is a totally different story. That usually causes the car to go straight to level 3 battery cooling. Pumps, Fans and Compressor. Usually quite loud. That is about the maximum charging rate that the battery can handle for 100% duty cycle charging.
My MachE sounds as loud as the one in that video. I installed a 48A charger because I was told it could take it. I was never told it could take it and make a crazy loud noise the entire time it’s charging. I have to say it’s a serious drawback as my bedroom window sits right above my driveway.
i have a 32A charger at the office and there is no noise what so ever. So clearly the issue is the 48A charge. I’m bringing it back to the dealer in a couple of days to check on fans and see if there was any damage done and also try and find a solution to this as this is certainly not what I expected.

Is « level 3 cooling » bad for the car?

I believe cooling an overheating battery is a good thing.

I am very curious if these cars will make the same noise when charging at 48A when ambient temps are below 0 C. I would expect not, but then again we have learned to expect the unexpected with this car.

My car is behaving strangely today.
Still running FordPass 3.28.0 so I can't blame this on a recent update...

Today at work it cooled the battery like normal but was very very loud. I could hear it running at max compressor speed for a while then it would slow down for a few seconds and then ramp back up to full speed again. Sounded like it was throttling.

Later this evening when I got home I plugged in outside my charge schedule and the car started charging. Checked FordPass and it couldn't connect. So I got back in the car and the dash said charging so I checked my charge settings and it said the car would wait for the schedule to charge. Weird. Conflicting info.

So, right now it is charging even though it shouldn't be charging yet. Not sure what is up today but it's being weird. Very curious what state of charge I will see in the morning. Supposed to stop at 90% bit it might blow right past and go 100% Full Monty tonight.

Haunted car.

Received a message this morning from the Ford distributor that the update that kills the noise is available and can be installed at the dealer. My neighbors have been very forgiving, but I am sure that they are as happy as I am.
Case closed I guess.

Hey, all! For those experiencing this unexpected fan noise, we recommend you have your Mustang Mach-E diagnosed by your Ford dealership. A TSB has now been released for both North America (TSB 21-2288) and European (TSB 21-2278) dealers to resolve this issue. You can locate your local dealer by using the following link: https://owner.ford.com/service/dealer-locator.html.
