I was told by the agent that all the prices went up across the board. Home insurance premium went up 30% and car insurance premium went up almost 35% when we renewed in May.
I'm due for a renewal in October but every place I've seen, people are reporting a steep increase in insurance cost especially in CA and FL since many insurance companies are moving out. Dreading to see my quote.
I have Travelers. My monthly cost went down $4 a month(!) in February when I went from my 2020 Honda Clarity to my 2023 MachE Ca Rt 1. Reading about the changes in insurance rates makes me nervous about renewal time.
I have 4 cars on my policy with two young male drivers. The renewal cost went up for all of the cars this year, but the increase for the MME was less than the increase for the other 3 cars.
I'm using Progressive. The renewal didn't change. I've read some insurers raised prices and some dropped EVs because of high cost of repairs. There was an example of Rivian fender-bender that turned into $42000 repair bill.
In case you guys haven't noticed, everything is going up. Fires have been so detrimental in California that lots of Ins companies don't even insure in CA. There's only one Insurance co that would insure my house in CA. My agent told me not to make any claims unless its catastrophic because if I get dropped by them, I would not be able to get insurance.
I was referred Wawanesa at first. They offered the lowest possible premium which was super enticing when comparing with other agencies. But then I read reviews and they were very discouraging so i didn't want to risk it especially with a new EV... but hey, if you prefer savings over customer service for when the unfortunate events arise then... go with them if they underwrite in your state!
(I have Mercury insurance which was the next cheapest that my broker found, and it seemed steep compared to other vehicles that I had. I can concur with others' posts that agencies have had to increase premiums because they did NOT do so during the pandemic.)
If you have Costco membership, you should give them a call. I had their insurance (Connect) for years and it's been super easy to file claims and they've been really easy to work with.
