I’m not really having any issues with my 12.
So after posting this yesterday and then doing a lot of driving around, I've decided that I am having issue with the phone not staying in a charging state. I ended up removing the rubber mat and it seems to make all the difference in the world. So I want to cut out the rubber over the actual charger section and then replace it some very thin black material (haven't decided what I'll use yet). So this will give a little space for the phone to sit in and hold it in place and also decrease the thickness of the area over the charger mechanism. But I don't want to cut it up unless I have a replacement. Anyone know where we can order a spare? I've searched the web for the numbers on the back but I don't find anything.

it's not obvious how you get there I think but it appears at Console Insert | FordUS you can order the part - the diagram suggests you want 045b54b for about US$27.

wireless charging in cars don't have a great connection in general. I've tested in multiple vehicles while traveling, with rentals and they are all just very blah. I tend to lose battery power still, just not as fast while using them with android auto.

I just see this as a slight battery drain support, versus a recharge method.

It might sounds odd...but tweet or email Ford customer service directly. They may reach out to you to 'test' something for feedback. I'm sure they would be interested in knowing what you find out.

It's a notable approach. I'm thinking with a combination of the wireless pad where it is, plus the additional rubber and a case if one exists, that the distance between the charging coil and the phone's coil are right at the threshold (6-7mm), which results in inconsistent charging.

Have you extensively tested without the case? I could easily see why a Magsafe case would interfere (those magnets built in, may not interfere with all Qi chargers, but if the coils are in different positions...).

My iPhone 12 Pro works well enough with the built-in pad. I did have to put a small strip of rubber along the bottom of the pad to stop the phone from sliding all the way down, which would cause it to stop charging.
Would you please post a picture and the width of the rubber strip you added? I'll try this when I get home to all my spare parts.

So I've got a new mat on order and its already shipped to me. I went ahead and cut into the console mat that came with the car. I'm not real happy with the cut on the left side. I don't think my OCD is gonna stand for that. But when the phone is in the slot, you can't see that its uneven. In my driving around today, the phone seemed to be held in place very well (iPhone 12 Pro) with an Apple Magsafe leather case. It did not disconnect from charge once. I'm making a 3 hour road trip this weekend so we'll see how it performs then. I think the thickness of the case and the mat is the issue.

But with the cutout, you can see where the actual charger is and you could probably use the design of the mat to help guide your cuts if you wanted to do this yourself. The charging area starts right next to the raised piece of rubber on the rights. So cut right up against that piece on the right side. The cut to the left based on the size of your particular phone.

I may try and clean this one up some more tomorrow and if I'm not happy, I'll work on the new mat when it comes in a couple of days.

Hello everyone! I've read in other threads that others have had issues maintaining steady wireless phone charging, but has anyone not been able to get ANY phone to charge? I tried my iPhone 12 Pro Max, and a iPhone 12 Pro, and neither are able to charge, even for a second...it almost seems like the Qi charging coil isn't working. I've tried with and without the phone cases, and with and without the mat. I've also turned the phones in different orientations to see if I can get the coil to be recognized, but no luck. Just wondering if anyone out there has had a DoA wireless charger (and if I should be contacting the dealer already..)
I am having the same issue, I have an iPhone 12 Pro with the clear Mag Apple Case. Whether I have the case on or off, I experience the same result, the phone does not stay charging for more than a minute. I wonder since other MME owners have not had any problems and others have that some MME's have faulty charging pads (components, etc.). If an OTA can fix this, great, if not then a recall needs to happen.

It's really only a bit over an 1/8" thick, but after adding it and placing my phone agaisnt it each time I get in, I haven't had any charging issues.

I’m going to use a couple of binder clips clipped to the 1/4” lip to prevent my phone from becoming a projectile on rollercoaster ? type roads.

I've ordered a replacement mat myself, thanks for the heads up!

I'll be modding it to use an actual magsafe charger (plugged into the USB-C port down there), so that it'll grip my phone a bit better, and probably provide slightly better charging rates.

Really wish we could disable the built-in Qi charger. Would rather not have it on if I'm using some other form of charging.
