I've ordered a replacement mat myself, thanks for the heads up!

I'll be modding it to use an actual magsafe charger (plugged into the USB-C port down there), so that it'll grip my phone a bit better, and probably provide slightly better charging rates.

Really wish we could disable the built-in Qi charger. Would rather not have it on if I'm using some other form of charging.
Tried this. Note that plugging in the MagSafe, the system pops up an error stating that it’s an incompatible device. But it continues to charge OK.

I purchased another similar charger from Amazon and will see how it looks when placed on the right hand side (I’d like to keep the current area free for my wife and other things).

It seems new iPhone 12 has issues with many Qi chargers we have a new Volvo 2021 with wireless charger my iPhone XR chargers no problem, my wives iPhone 12 doesn't it shows a error after about 5 secs. Volvo blames the magsafe feature of the new phones being the issue. We also has a home wireless charger that didn't work. The Ford charger with new iPhones 12 might not be compatible with magsafe.

Oh yea - I'm using an aftermarket "magsafe" charger, believe it's the "Ravpower" brand from Amazon. Doesn't give any errors when plugged in. None of them are going to give you the 15W fast charging due to the power delivery requirements for those.

Well, i tried pulling and replacing the fuse, and still no luck getting ANYTHING to happen with the Qi charger. No intermittent charging, no real indication that there's any power going to the charger. Unfortunately do not have an Android phone to test on it. I may wait a while for the first OTA update or for more people to start reporting in with a similar issue (no functionality at all) before taking it to the dealer. The rest of the car is pretty much perfect and I'm happy to give up wireless charging for a while and enjoy the rest of the car. Will be watching this thread for solutions AND I'm intrigued by others' ideas to put a magsafe or other wireless charger connected to the USB port

So I've got a new mat on order and its already shipped to me. I went ahead and cut into the console mat that came with the car. I'm not real happy with the cut on the left side. I don't think my OCD is gonna stand for that. But when the phone is in the slot, you can't see that its uneven. In my driving around today, the phone seemed to be held in place very well (iPhone 12 Pro) with an Apple Magsafe leather case. It did not disconnect from charge once. I'm making a 3 hour road trip this weekend so we'll see how it performs then. I think the thickness of the case and the mat is the issue.

But with the cutout, you can see where the actual charger is and you could probably use the design of the mat to help guide your cuts if you wanted to do this yourself. The charging area starts right next to the raised piece of rubber on the rights. So cut right up against that piece on the right side. The cut to the left based on the size of your particular phone.

I may try and clean this one up some more tomorrow and if I'm not happy, I'll work on the new mat when it comes in a couple of days.

This is actually helpful - I"ve always placed my phone on the left and bottom, but from the looks it the placement, it's more like up and to the right.

This thread makes me happy I did not upgrade to the 12. I hope this is not the case with the next one. I have an 11 Pro Max that has no issues charging. I just plop it down on that mat, and it works every time.

Just like my 12 Pro. Plop it down and watch it charge and charge and charge....

Here's my hack.

Purchased a black MagSafe compatible charger from Amazon (the standard Apple white was just too much). Got some adhesive pads to stick it onto the rubber mat. Cut a small slot into one of the rubber dividers and routed the cord along the edge. Hot glue'd things in place.

Works rather well. I can slide the phone off (or pull it off using the mat as leverage) with one hand.

That's where I placed my magsafe puck as well - extra rubber mat arrives today which I will use to do something similar routing the cord like you did. (Didn't want to butcher my pad until I knew I had a replacement).

Thanks for the pic!

has anyone that has ordered one received it and confirmed this is the correct item to order?
Mine was apparently delivered today - will know once I get home this evening.
