Well I see I'm not the only one on this boat. I have an iphone 12 Pro, no case. When running Carplay (I always run it). The battery drains otherwise the connection seems stable.

Haha, no offense taken! Yeah, I've been assuming the coil is in the "silvery" rectangular area, but my experience with wireless chargers that are larger than a hockey puck is that placement is key. I was thinking about looking to see if there's a fuse for the charger that I can pull to reset it.
I have a 12ProMax. I have a clear case on it that is MagSafe compatible. Charging works well enough. If I’m running CarPlay, Waze, music and the like at the same time, it will just barely keep up or very slowly drain. Many of the issues are MagSafe case related I think.

I’m told by my friends who use Waze that it’s a huge battery hog. Apparently Google has written it to be the software equivalent of just shorting the battery terminals together.

Yes, it is a real battery hog.

I had an iPhone 11 Pro, it would charge fine and CarPlay connected fine, etc. Problem was it would overheat and disconnect about 5-10 minutes into use.

I used that as an excuse to switch to a 12 pro max and that has been flawless. Charges every time, doesn’t overheat and no issues with CarPlay or PaaK. I was not using a case on either device.

My iPhone 12Pro connects to charge fine but quits very quickly. It doesn't seem to hold a connection while the car is moving.
I have the same issue with my iPhone 12 pro. If i move the phone around on the pad after it stops charging it will start again but only for a minute or two. Even with the case off this happens. Very frustrating.

Has anyone tried these MagSafe sticker magnets put under the charging pad rubber mat? Someone elsewhere on the forum suggested that these might help. I can see peeling off the mat, finding the “sweet spot” for the charger, and putting the sticky magnets directly over top of that area but under the mat. Link below:

I have a screen protector at least! I only put one tiny nick in the edge of the iPhone 11. I've never broken a screen or back on any phone. The 12 has the distinction of being the most perfect tempered glass screen protector application I've ever done... until it breaks. I break those damn things all the time!

I tried them, didn't really work out like I'd hoped. They aren't strong enough to "grab" the phone, and even after fiddling with the phone to get it to hold on them, charging eventually stopped after a few minutes.

I've just given up on the built-in charging mat. Even when I've had it stay connected/charging for an extended period it's very slow (while using Apple Carplay). Using an aftermarket magsafe charging plugged into the USB C port there, it actually charges my phone while using Carplay.
