Is the ambient light worth it?

Hi

I want to buy me a MME and am so excited to finally get one.

There are so many variations of this car. I have decided to choose one with tech pack 2 for the panoramic roof, 360 cam, b&o sound and more. It should have extended range with RWD for maximum range. Exterior color dark matter grey or infinity blue.

I found a few ones but some have ambient light and some not. The ones with ambient are a bit more expensive. Im questioning why ambient light is not in tech pack 2. But I heard ambient light in the MME is not that special and you only have it on the drivers side and not the back seats is this correct?

Is there a possibility to upgrade the MME to ambient light? But that you can control it on the display and dont need an extra control.

I can confirm that the ambient light is only installed for the front two seats and is not in the back seat area.

Totally not worth it. I don’t even notice it and could care less at this point. Of course, YMMV.

Kinda disappointing but that makes it easier for me to choose the right model. Is there a post or other DIY tutorial how to install really nice ambient light that could maybe be controlled on the 15 inch display and dont result in a cable jungle?

There is a thread somewhere on here where someone added lighting to the back but that was piggybacked off the existing lights in the front. Sorry I don’t have a link but you could probably search it. I don’t think you could control anything added from the screen.

I think you're thinking that the ambient lighting is more than it is. I can tell you that I wouldn't buy any vehicle based on its inclusion of, or non-inclusion, of ambient lighting, but the Mach-E doesn't have much and it's not something a lot of people even discuss in the 2+ years I've owned one.

We set our color on day one and that's that.

Yea sure ambient light is just a cool feature if included but not the reason why I wouldnt buy a MME if it does not have ambient light. Just wondering why this is not included in a tech pack...

Ambient light is no big deal on the MME. The screen graphic depicted light in the back seat but that is not true. Only front.

I've got a California Route 1 without ambient lighting. I follow this forum quite a bit and didn't even realize that anybody had any kind of special ambient lighting in their MME. I did have ambient lighting in my Edge a few years ago. You won't be missing out on anything important. Don't worry about it.

Be aware the Dark Matter Grey (at least 22' MY) is essentially black with the slightest hint of grey and only visible in certain light conditions. I bought mine from online order and was disappointed the web color did not match the actual.

There are a handful of threads around various approaches to adding ambient lighting (front and/or rear) at different budgets and levels of effort. The stock ambient lighting is pretty underwhelming. In your case, I'd buy without and go the diy route if you end up missing it.

My first reaction to the question was "What's Ambient Lighting?"
My 2nd reaction was, "That should be 'ambience' lighting."
Then came, "Do I have that?" Followed by a memory of my son changing something once.

Finally came the realization that I have 0 idea what color the lights are inside my car. Not even really sure what lights up. I guess I don't spend a whole lot of time looking at the inside of the car at night.
