I would buy another Mach-E or any other EV. Not sure I will ever go back to an ICE car. I love the power and money I save on gas. I pay .09 cent per kwh. And I average 4.4 mile per kwh. No way I want a gas car.

If you don’t invest in renewing the product you are selling, sales volume will drop off a cliff in year 6 of production.

A few other possible factors: Lots of cars being leased and not sold, and those cars are coming back onto the market as used. EVs tend to depreciate a lot because of FUD over the battery, so good deals on used cars are hard to pass up, especially when you get one with pretty low miles.

I bought my 2023 used in May with just 7000 miles on it. Didn't make sense to pay the depreciation tax just to get a new one.

I sold my MME after 5 years ownership and didn't buy a new one. I felt that Ford had abandoned the product.

I plan on driving my '23 GT for at least 10 years. I'd love to buy another one at that point, but there's some real improvements that need to be made before then before I would consider purchasing another.

You can't expect younger people whose iphones feel extremely snappy to want to buy a car with a touchscreen that has the response time of my first smartphone from the early 2000's. I'm fine with it and used to it now, but I absolutely would not purchase again without the touchscreen getting a major overhaul.

we tend to keep cars a long time. 20 years on a 530i & 19 on our CRV. Makiato is a december 21 delivery, so in it’s 5th year, and at 43000 is showing little battery degredation. No reason to change at this point. Things could certasinly change, but for now, we are thinking 10 year minimum ownership. by then, maybe new battery tech?
with regard to Used / Pre-Owned EV’s….. what a great car for local needs! or for kids. low cost EZ to drive…….
We have no intention to go back to ICE.

We too keep cars a long time. It was amazing, to us at least, the innovations when we replaced a 20 year old tow vehicle with the latest version of the same thing!! We'll keep the ICE tow vehicle, but for daily driving, I have my Mach-E and the hubs just got a new EV.

When we put solar on the house in 2022, we sized it for EVs as well as household use. Loving it!

I have had my 2025 premium, extended Mach e for just over a year now. I must agree with doogie63 in that I would not like to return to using ICE vehicles ever again. I also have fears that this vehicle line will either fall victim to Ford's new "Universal EV Platform", or, that it will be pushed into a luxury type status, complete with outrageous price tag. Mine is leased for three years. I'm not sure I want to buy the new UEV Ford Phantom minitruck. I may just end up turning in the lease car, and then buy a used Mach e GT. Of course, it must be Grabber Yellow!

I watched certified and used MME listings for a couple months before I bought mine. Premiums and Selects didn't seem to be moving. GTs were moving a little better. I agree that prior battery usage is a concern and found mine with only 1,300 miles. I drove my last EV to 100k and expect to do the same with my MME.

Yes, it's true — but as Snopes or any fact checker would report, it lacks key context. That omission is the click-bait headline. Numbers are from Ford's own July sales release:

Jul 2026Jul 2025Change
Mustang Mach-E1,8635,308−64.9%
F-150 Lightning1412,831−95.0%
E-Transit6190−32.2%
Total2,0658,229−74.9%

"Falling off a cliff" implies demand evaporated. Three things say otherwise:
1. Ford cancelled a third of its own lineup. The Lightning was 32.5% of Ford's 2025 EV volume (27,307 of 84,113), killed as part of the ~$19.5B write-down. Those 141 units are dealers clearing lots. Back it out and July is −64%, not −75%.
2. The baseline is inflated. The $7,500 credit died Sept 30, 2025, and Ford's Q3 2025 was a record EV quarter — up 30% — as buyers pulled purchases forward. July 2025 sits at the front of that quarter. Not a clean comparison.
3. Everyone's down, Ford just more. H1 2026: Ford −57%, GM −32.6%, Tesla ~−10%, total US EV market −20.5% in Q2. A post-subsidy contraction that Ford deepened for itself.

On the theories upthread: product age is a fair read, but the Mach-E was up 30% last Q3 on that same unrefreshed car — saturation doesn't switch on in one quarter, a credit deadline does. Off-lease supply is the underrated one, and I think it's structural rather than cyclical.

"Ford abandoned it" is the one I'd push back on, because it conflates the Mach-E with the segment. Yesterday Ford named what the $19.5B was clearing room for: the Fathom. Nobody spends $5B walking away. Ford exited expensive EVs, and the Lightning was the most expensive one it had.

That does leave the Mach-E in an awkward spot — Ford confirmed in June it won't migrate to the new platform, so this car finishes its run on GE1 — and MY2026 doesn't help my case. I'd rather buy à la carte than in packages (MagneRide on a Premium, anyone?) — but à la carte is supposed to come with a lower base price, and the Select went up $1,350, with a $1,495 Tech Package to get back what used to be standard. Look at what's in it: BlueCruise. The frunk went optional too. Both standard on the $29,945 Fathom. That's not abandonment — that's harvesting margin off the old platform to fund the new one.

Meanwhile I'm at $0.023/mile before maintenance and depreciation, and the GT — a considered Mach-E re-buy — still pulls like nothing else near the price. The sales chart and the ownership experience are two different conversations.

Curious if competititon is not playing a roll? I do believe that the MME not getting much updating to battery and charging specs plays a part.
Competition:
1. Tesla - the Juniper Model Y is better suspension, and FSD
2. Toyota - after refusing to participate in EVs is not a major player
3. GM - How many offerings?? Lyriq, Vistiq, Optiq, IQ, Bolt, Blazer, Equinox.........
4. Kia/Hyundai: 800 Volt Architecture ..... 15 min at the charger is better than 30 min...

You doing the same thing the rest of us doing. Your plan is solid. Most of us in this forum are not going back to gas. I wouldn’t do it either.
Don’t be swayed by the headlines of Ford’s EV sales declines. EVs are here to stay, irregardless if they are made by Ford or any other automaker.
Ford and the rest of the automakers are watching the Chinese EV automakers, trying to catch up or stay in step with their advances in technology, battery charging and battery chemistry. I am afraid we are falling behind and this administration’s policies exacerbate the disadvantages.
BEVs choices are plenty. Charging infrastructure by private entities, Tesla, EV GO, IONNA, ChargePoint, Walmart etc, is going better than I expected.
I am keeping my Mach E and my Lightning. The gas money that I saved, I invested the last 5 years to a portfolio that pays me back the charging costs of both my BEVs. Try to do this with gas operated vehicles.
You making the right choice.
Good luck.

It’s true.

The EV market is saturated with too many models for the current demand.

Great for consumers (prices keep dropping and lots of choices), but it means lots of money lost by manufacturers and models getting killed off.

Too many manufacturers sprinted too quickly to hit the same market (mid size EV SUV).

Things will find equilibrium but it’s a bloodbath for profits in this sector.

Despite having a lot of nameplates, there still aren’t really good EVs on the market. Otherwise, Ford would have sold even less.
