We got flurries yesterday and sub-20 degrees fahrenheit temps over night. This morning I had a hell of a time getting my charge door to lock after unplugging the car. This is the second time this has happened in the last month. Anyone else run into this and have any advice?

I charge outdoors in Wisconsin, so ice and snow are a factor.

-11 c here this morning and has been plugged in for the last week with snow and freezing temp. Out now in it and it was no problems closing the port door this morning. Make sure there is no ice/snow in the bottom ledge. Push with 3 fingers 1” from the back in the middle?

Hi there, I'd be happy to look into your Mach-E concerns on my end. Will you send us a message with your VIN and dealership info? I can look into things on my end.

I am in Toronto - Have the same problem due to the amazingly dumb design. Easy to get snow/ice into the latch mechanism and FREEZE CLOSED (used hair dryer for 30 sec since I was at home). Whenever I charge when it could snow/freezing rain, I now pop the hood and drape a towel over the charge port once connected and close hood so towel stays there. No issues since... A kluge to fix a bad design.

Happened to me last winter and I was very frustrated for a day (didn't need to go anywhere). As luck would have it, I had a small lock deicer squirt bottle (isopropyl alcohol) from the 1970s in my garage. Even luckier that I sorta knew where it was. One squirt in the latch was all it took. You can get these at any auto parts store.

Hello - the following may not be a solution to your problem with cold weather. However, I had difficulty closing the charge port door and was very much concerned as backing out of the very tight garage exposed the door if not, properly closed.

By chance, I noticed that the rubber boot that surrounds the pin that goes latch was partially covering the end of the pin, preventing solid closure. Simply pushing the rubber boot toward the base of the latch. Door solved my problem.

This may not be a cold weather solution, but it did solve the problem of not closing the door. Hope this helps

Spray pin and hole with dry lube spray, then work door open and closed several times while wet. That seems to prevent most problems.

The lock deicer is a good idea if things get frozen.

A charge port cover is advised if you charge a lot outside in the snow and ice.

Anyone have a recommendation for a charge port cover?

Update: Found a retailer that had the OEM cover in stock. We'll see how that is in 4-7 days.
