Key fob or PAAK (Phone As A Key)? Big difference between the two.

Key fobs are paired to the car, not to the app. And the app has no idea what key fobs are paired to your car. Can you post a screen shot?

Not possible to post a screenshot. The app has updated since this happened.

The app stated that the key fob needed to be updated and walked me thru steps to do so. The problem is that the update temporarily wiped the programming of the fob and the car would not go into drive. The PAAK only worked to put the car into accessory mode. I waited an hour or so and then tried to program the key fob again and it “worked”. The key fob and PAAK work but the PAAK software now doesn’t know that it works and keeps telling me to pair the phone. Am bringing it to the dealer to have them check the car diagnostics and the 12 volt battery. I was just curious if anyone else ever had this prompt to update the key fob. It didn’t make sense to me and even the dealer never heard of this before.

Try deleting paak in the car. Then set up paak again. I had to delete and install Fordpass and lost paak. When I could not reconnect. Courtney at Ford's app support had me delete paaks in the car. After that everything is working great.

Went to the dealership and this was the issue:

The RFA (Remote Function Actuator) error on the Ford Mach-E
often causes Phone As A Key (PAaK) failure, "Key Not Detected" messages, or start failures. Primarily affecting 2021-2023 models, this is typically due to a module update issue or, specifically, an RFA module becoming stuck in programming mode after an OTA update.

Common Fixes & Solutions:
  • Dealer Update: The primary solution is to have a Ford dealer reprogram the RFA module with the latest software via FDRS.
  • Fuse Reset (Temporary Fix):pulling the RFA fuses (F18/F19) in the body control module (BCM) for one minute can sometimes reset the module.
  • 12V Battery Health: A weak 12-volt battery can cause module communication errors and RFA faults, leading to various issues.
  • Check for TSBs: Mention Technical Service Bulletins (TSB) SSM 51571 or similar to your dealer, as this is a known issue.

Battery tested ok; RFA software update caused other problems. Had to reload/update the BCM as well.
