Lane Centering

I am considering leasing a Mach E and recently drove one. For reference, I currently own a 2023 Ford Escape PHEV. With the Escape, when I turn on Lane Keeping, I get Lane Centering. When I turned on Lane Keeping on the Mach E, I only got Lane Keeping, not Lane Centering. Is not Lane Centering available on the Mach E unless you subscribe to the Blue Cruise option. Obviously, you get Lane Centering then as a part of the "hands free" driving experience that you get with Blue Cruise.

As a follow up question, If you subscribe to Blue Cruise, do you still have the Lane Centering function when you are not driving "hands free" on a controlled access highway - - but are driving on a highway with defined lane markings?

It does lane centering when cruise control is on, with or without Blue Cruise.

Without cruise control on, it just does lane assist. It helps prevent you from going over the line but does not “lock you” to the center of the lane. Also check the settings in the car, the lane assist can be set to just alert or alert+ aid.

Something doesn't add up. I already had ACC on when I turned on Lane Keeping - - and as I stated, I only got Lane Keeping, not Lane Centering. Even the salesman says that there is no Lane Centering without Blue Cruise on the Mach E. What's going on!!??

I have a 2024 Mach-E and had a 90-day trial of BlueCruise that I let expire.
Here is what I have seen/done (note that this doesn't cover all possible situations, just what I have used).

In the Mach-E I don't see "two lane modes". I "think" it is lane centering in all cases (EDIT I see it stated that with adaptive cruise control has to be on for lane center, and that makes sense, and lines up with my experiences). I'm qualifying that statement, because I have not tested that at low speeds.

Then you have adaptive cruise control that maintains speed and distance from the car in front of you.

BlueCruise adds to the lane centering and adaptive cruise control with the ability to take your hands off of the wheel (but not everywhere only where it deemed it safe). Starting in the 2025 model you also have automatic lane changing when approaching a slower vehicle. Older models (and the 2025 models) allow lane changing by just hitting the turn signal.

With the 2024 and BlueCruise we got all the way up to using hands free and changing lanes with just pressing the turn signal and it worked well. Note that we didn't use it on really windy roads, which we consider unsafe. But my wife was never comfortable with taking her hands off of the wheel. As such we didn't see much value in maintaining the subscription.

When our BlueCruise expired, we did another trip with just adaptive cruise control and lane centering and didn't notice any difference other than hands on the wheel and no automatic lane changing.

We have also used the lane centering in city driving. We have never turned on adaptive cruise control except on the highway because we feel that it is unsafe, and I don't really think it works in that case anyways.

For lane centering we weren't testing that it keeps you centered, but it will "nudge" if you are going out of the lane. I should have also mentioned that in all cases the "lane" is determined by the cameras seeing the lane markings. If they go away the lane centering turns off.

Also, lane centering (and probably adaptive cruise control {but we have never tested it}) doesn't turn on until 40 MPH, and it will turn off at 35 MPH.

I might also mention the only reason we have had it for city driving is because in the Engage mode isn't of given a percentage number for the State of Charge it will give this long bar, with no number (in Whisper or Unbridled mode it doesn't do this). But if lane centering is turned on, it puts a car icon with the "centering indicators" in the middle with the state of charge percentage number off to the left.

Was Lane Centering enabled in the Drivers Assist menu? (The salespeople are wrong.)

I honestly noticed zero difference between Bluecruise and normal lane keeping after the sub expired on normal highway drives, other than the "shift over" behavior around bigger trucks that was pretty inconsistent in my experience anyway. Neither were stellar but worked fine and take the stress out of the drive for most situations with solid lane markings. Just my anecdotal experience!

All 3 engage Lane Centering when ACC is enabled. But only Lane Keeping when ACC is not enabled.

It would be odd if the Mach-E had ACC and no Lane Centering unless Lana Centering is disabled in Sync4 Driver's Assist section?

Thanks for all the replies. I again test drove a new Mach E and the car definitely does not have Lane Centering! Lane Keeping - - yes - - but it appears that in order to get Lane Centering you now have to opt for Blue Cruise. That change may have come in with the introduction of Blue Cruise 1.5 earlier this year.

P.S. There is nothing on the Driver Assist menu about Lane Centering, only Lane Keeping.

I have a 2025 with lane centering. Yes my blue cruise trial is still active, but I still get lane centering on non blue cruise roads just fine.

There’s an option in the Cruise control menu to turn lane centering on or off.

I had a good salesman but he knew almost nothing about the MME and its features. I frequently read similar posts (here and on reddit) from most other MME owners. The dealerships only seem focused on selling the car, not training us [or their sales dept] on it. If you end up getting a MME, RTFM is in full effect.

Have a MY2023, without bluecruise. If definitely does lane center when having normal cruise control enabled.
