Liftgate stops suddenly

When I press the liftgate button in the back the liftgate stops after a few seconds. It's not consistent sometimes it works fine but it is annoying when it happens.

Mine will stop while it's closing and the horn will honk twice. Imagine trying to leave for work in your quiet neighborhood at 7AM and this happens.

When this happens to me, I give up on electrically closing the hatch after a few double-honks and manually close it. ?‍?

No one has an answer, but lots of conjecture about sensors, moisture, PaaK too close while the liftgate is closing, etc. Ford has opened a case for my mach-e and I am taking it into the dealer this week. I will let everyone know in that post what I find out, but I am not hopeful they find anything definitive.

Hi, I found the same issue, and started a thread about it. I got some good responses, and the thing that I found was that I have this issue where it pops a few inches and stops only when the vehicle is locked. If you unlock it first, the liftgate will open all the way. Here's the thread if you want to see some of the people's responses. Hope this helps.

Regarding Ford's "Would you please send over a private message with your VIN and dealer info", all they did was connect me to my dealer to set up an appointment, basically useless as I already had an appointment with my dealer for the 10,000 service.

At my 10,000 mile service, there is nothing on my invoice slip to indicate they ever bothered looking at this issue. And I don't blame them, as this is an intermittent problem they likely wouldn't be able to even replicate, never mind troubleshoot and repair. Sorry I don't have anything more definitive.

I've learned that if I unlock the car or use the double click on the remote it works fine. It tends to fail when the care is locked.

Had the car a month and I have this same problem about 80% of the time. Always when unlocked and only when opening from the lift gate itself. Found if it’s a long press it always does it, lifts a few inches and stops. When I stab at or quick press I have better luck opening it.

My theory is that it thinks the keys are in the trunk hence it stop the trunk from closing to prevent you from locking yourself out.

The sensors that detect the key may be too sensitive because you're too close.

This has happened to me a few times when I threw my backback with my keys in it and the trunk lid always stop with the double honk.

Bump! Is there any resolution to this? I have had 3 repair attempts for this problem and it hasn't been fixed yet - need to take it in a 4th time. This is extremely annoying because I do deliveries with my car and use the liftgate often.
