My wife’s premium that I just did has an FE harness. Built Nov 2020. You don’t HAVE to go through the firewall. I did (well I already had a wire run through there as part of my EL wire pony so I just used that). There is an option in the instructions to tap a different wire in the headlight harness that will just have the emblem lit even with the headlights off. Which I don’t think is a bad thing.
I have an April 2021 build, hopefully that’s the new harness. How can you tell?

If I had to guess, I'd bet you have the old one. I think you'd have to look and see if you have a green wire with orange stripe in your headlight harness to be sure.
I've got an early May 2021 build. I plan to attempt this install over the weekend so I'll report back on the presence of a green wire with orange stripe. I'd prefer to have it, but also don't have much of a problem with an always on emblem. I guess my only concern is would always on + summer heat have any effect on the the components in the emblem?

The General is correct. Disconnect the left headlight and look for an orange and green wire. If you don’t have it, John gave us options.

Are the early Premiums that were built at the same time as the First Editions really different?
It is about trim and spec at this

The heat should not be a problem.

Working Temperature: -4°F (-20°C) ~ 122°F (50°C)
Storage Temperature: -40°F (-40°C) ~ 176°F (80°C)
Lifespan: 50,000+hours

I've done extended testing in normal ambient pressure/temperature for over 700 hours straight.

I also did a stress test to see it working to 170 degrees for over two hours. This is not good for the emblem overall, but it survived and still worked fine.

I'll be doing some extended testing in higher heat. I just haven't gotten to it yet. I've been trying to make sure I get Ponies off to backers.

Right, but the First Edition is actually the same spec as the Premium, just with some different colored parts. I bet the transition from Job 1 to Job 2 is when they changed the headlight harness, so it may be more about build date than just trim or spec.

If it’s always on wouldn’t that kill your 12v battery?

Always on doesn’t mean ALWAYS on. It means on when the car is on. However, even on 24/7 wouldn’t kill your battery. LEDs draw very little power and the HVB tops up the 12V battery as needed. My dash cam has been on for 4 months running now. Working just fine.

Ahh ok, makes sense. As opposed to the other way which is whenever the eyebrow lights are on right?

Hmm, okay thanks. That's pretty much what I figured. It's probably more accurate to differentiate by Job 1 or Job 2 rather than First Edition or not.
So do all the Job 1’s (Premium in my case) require the extra Micro3 Fuse Tap that is recommended for First Editions?

I actually would recommend still tapping power and ground at the headlight. White on the harness to red on the Pony and any Black/Green on the harness to black. One wire could be run the BCM then and a wire tap would be used. Otherwise, both the white and red Pony wires can be tied together and the Pony light will be on day or night whenever the car is on.

If I decide to have them allways on and at a given moment I decide to turn off all the lights (including daylight) I assume that the pony will be off. Is that correct?? Or does it stay on as long as Mach is on? I have Premium Job 2. Thanks

Sorry, I'm getting a little confused with all the back and forth. Just to clarify, do I have it correct that the Job 2 Premiums (late 2021 built premiums) do NOT require running to the BCM through the firewall? Or is that still not confirmed?
