Lock the Charger When Charging In Public?

Is there a way to lock in the charger when charging in public? I recently charged in public while I went to get a haircut, and when I returned I was unplugged and had a parking ticket on my windshield.

My home L2 charger has a small hole that can be used with a small padlock to effectively lock the charger to the car.

However, did you charge to 100% while your car was unattended, if so - don’t do that.

I had a brand-T owner unplug my Mustang. I'm glad there isn't a lock. I'm certain the jerk would have damaged my vehicle if there had been a lock on the plug.

Well doesn't that suck. If you weren't at 100%, it would appear that someone took it upon themselves to unplug you. I wonder if the FordPass app records the time of the event and the state of charge at that time. You might be able to fight the ticket on that basis. If you're at a public charger servicing a business or strip mall, they don't expect you to babysit your car while you're shopping.

Or is it possible you were fully charged; therefore, parking at a spot and no longer charging? I have no ideas what the rules are for that situation.

Easy. The blue indicators on the side of the charge port flash showing how full it is, and when it's done they are fully lit and not blinking. Plus many chargers show they're done.

Sounds like you were at 100% and left the car sitting. If so, lucky they didn't tow you.

Yeah you cannot be in a charging spot if you are at 100% because that means you're no longer charging.

A lot of people don't realize that you have to move your car out of a charging spot as soon as you are done charging, otherwise you can be ticketed or towed in some jurisdictions for improper use of the spot. Being plugged in or not doesn't matter, it's related to if you are actively drawing power or not.

If so, check with them and fight the ticket.
