I received an email from Ford today to upgrade to two factor authentication (2FA). I decided to upgrade. I clicked on the link and started the process. After logging onto Safari (my default web browser), it told me to go the Ford Pass app to get a code and then it asked me for my two factor authentication code. Great, I'm locked out. Due to kid stuff, I'm calling Ford tonight and customer service says they are only open from 8 am - 8 pm. Good think I don't use phone as a key (PAAK). You would think a global company would have services to unlock customers from FordPass 24 hours a day.

I too received the email and I am pro multifactor authentication for obvious reasons.

But after pondering whether there might be some gotcha or not, I was hesitant because of FordPass.

So thanks for confirming that I probably need to think this procedure through first.

Same here - It’s Ford that needs to think through this better before they release this.

I’m also glad that at least one person is not a victim blaming troll.

I declined when I got that email yesterday or the day before because, frankly, I’m not interested if it’s not using a third party authenticator — for reasons your first post exemplify.

The initial setup sucked, but I got in. I could then switch to a 3rd party authenticator app. Works fine for me. I’d have rather they jumped straight to PassKey, but that’s life ?‍♂

I updated to 2FA without issue, luckily. FP asked me to login again.

I started the process and didn't see how it would benefit me so I never completed it. I don't want to use it every time I sign in.

You might want to educate yourself on why two factor authentication is a helpful thing from a security standpoint.

I have to say when I got the email I thought there is no way I’m clicking that link. I did however log into the ford site by other means and the first thing it did was offer 2FA registration. Years working in cybersecurity make me pretty cautious.
Now if they could do something like it to prevent thefts, turning off tracking, unauthorized resets, etc.

You can have devices remembered so it won't ask for all logins. Just new ones and ones you haven't "trusted."

I set it up without any issues on my mac. When I opened the app on my phone it made me log in and get a code that was texted to me and all worked without issue.
