Long Charging times

So my issue is that with a level 2 charger, I am only getting 10 miles/hour. Used to be quite higher, around 20 which I thought was the spec. I live in Fl and the garage is in a garage while charging., The data is coming from the Ford Pass app. so the last charge was 117 miles, which took 11 hours. I am only charging to the 80% level.

Any ideas, I search the topics and could not find a match, if a thread is in here please point me to it.

Do not trust any of the data shown by the FordPass app regarding time on charger or miles/kWh added.

What is the model of L2 charger you are using, is it a plug or hardwired, and does your charger have settings for controlling the power output?

Unless you’re trying to fit all your charging into an off peak rate window determined by your utility, it doesn’t matter how fast your L2 goes. Just go to sleep at night and you’ll be back to 80% every morning.

Sounds like this level 2 charger is not yours? The amount of charge depends on how many amps the charger provides. A level 2 charger can be as high as 48 amps / 11.9 kWh and provide 32 or so miles per hour, or be much lower. I used one that was putting out around 1 or 2 kWh.

Have you asked the owner to try resetting the breaker?

So, I am properly not using the correct terms. I had an electrician wire a Nema 14-50 plug which I plugged the Ford adapter in. Is there a way to see what kind of amp/volts that is coming out of that plug? I work in computers but that kind of voltage and amps is out of my league for testing. The electrician did add 50 amp breakers to the circuit box. I went back on the Ford Pass APP (yes, that is not the best tool) and since Dec 23, I have been getting between 12-15 miles/hr.

The problem is your trying to use a measure of miles per KWhr rather than just looking at the charging rate for what it is (a measure of how much power is being delivered).

With that said, focus only on how many KW your charger is delivering at the moment, and how many KWhr it has delivered over time, and forget any metric that tries to translate that into forward motion because how far u can go per KWhr varies drastically with the temperature, terrain, and how heavy your foot is, etc. If you look only at the measure of power being delivered, I'm certain you will find that the rate of actual charge (measured in KW) has not actually changed for your level 2 charger.

When you think about it, you don't fill up a gas engine and say I delivered 20 miles per gallon do you? Obviously that's silly, you look at the pump and see it delivered 20 gallons or whatever because your measuring the flow of a fluid, and in the case of a battery your measuring the flow of power, and it's nonsensical to try and translate that on the fly to miles per kWhr or miles per gallon without being wildly innacurate.
