So with the cold temperature recently, my car got down to 6% on the HVB. The red turtle sign came on. I figured it was cold and low %. I was able to get home and plug into the level 2 charger. The level 2 charger overnight took the HVB to 100%. I went to work about 10 miles away. When leaving work, I couldn't start the car. I got the red battery sign, stop safely now, and service soon signs on the dashboard.

With the cold, I checked the voltage of the 12v battery and it was 11.4v so I tried a battery pack to jump it after removing the panels. No luck. I figured maybe the battery just gave on my 2021 Mach E. I replaced the LVB battery with this one which is a pretty good match.

I still see the same signs on the dashboard and the vehicle won't start. The voltage is now 12.4v. I put the jumper pack on for a few hrs hoping it would charge a little more. Do I need to jumpstart the car with another car? What does the voltage need to be to start the car? Even with the new battery, will it not start without dealer intervention? Does the HVBJB need to be replaced along with the LVB? I am in a parking lot so trickle charge options are limited.

Probably HVBJB, has it been replaced yet? Did you try walking away from the car for 10 minutes and trying to start it again?

A bad HVBJB will prevent the 12V battery from charging.

The hvbjb has not been changed. Yea I did walk away for a while and came back. But the new battery is 12.4 v, so will that still prevent car from starting?

The failed HVBJB will prevent the car from starting, not the 12V. With 60k on the original HVBJB, that’s the likely cause. Put in a request to Ford Roadside to have it towed to a dealer.

Do you have the standard or extended pack?

Yeah there was a recall for replacement on your HVBJB if you didn’t know, they can fail like that.

Getting it towed. Will keep everyone updated. Dealer said it could take 2-3 weeks for them to get to it so that’s painful. They don’t have loaners available but maybe if it is the recall, they will cover rentals.

Same issue here, but at 49% battery charge. 2021 Premium AWD standard range HV battery. I have a 48s video of every warning message possible appearing in the screen including drivers door ajar when I was sitting there knowing it was fully closed. Tow truck dealer said it was the 4th MachE in 2 days he's seen the same thing. We had to use the 12v cables in the Fascia access to pop the frunk then get to 12v battery to boost it just to unlock the doors and get it into tow neutral mode. At the dealer and off the tow truck we were able to get it to READY mode but many messages and DTC lights were still on. Dealer was closed so now I've got to go back there this morning.

Going through the same scenario with slightly different symptoms. AAA boosted dead 12 V battery (after popping frunk, etc.) and I thought the car was fine. Drove it home and left "on" since the 12 V gets charge from the HV. 15 minutes later car was totally off again. Tried trickle charge with battery connected to car and with battery isolated: with battery connected charged stopped after 5 seconds; with battery isolated would not take charge. Trickle charger will let car turn on so plan to put car in neutral to be towed to dealer. Likewise will update with results (even though there are a bazillion other 12V battery threads.)

@MachEUser ford offers rental coverage on this recall. Ford also instructed dealers to order parts and give it 5 days for delivery. The dealer should take no more than 6.8 hours to do the work (that’s what they will be paid for). They will also likely charge the car overnight. So 5 biz days for parts and 2 repair days. Anything above that is dealers being the fuck ups that they are.

All recalls including HVBJB done previously. No warnings at all about 12 v battery being low, but I have used climate, including prior to departures, in this cold weather.

Update: went to dealer this morning and went straight to the vehicle. Dead on arrival. Couldnt unlock the door. They will have to use the 12v access to pop frink and access 12v battery to get it in N again. When I went inside to make sure they got the key and formally write it up, Service Adviser said this is started to happen with more MMEs.

You didn’t get the stop safely now message so it may be battery or bem? The other issues prevent you from driving car even after charging and jumping.

I’m still waiting for them to diagnose it. Without that I can’t claim the rental. The dealer is also being difficult with loaners. Let’s what happens next week.
