My 2022 Mach-E Select SR with just over 2500 miles was t-boned on the rear passenger side 2 months ago. The other party admitted fault and everything will be covered by their insurance. The damages were over 10k. I also plan to file a diminished value claim but it seems for every week I don't have the car, the prices keep dropping so I don't think I'll get much here.

I took it to the collision shop associated with the ford dealership where I bought it thinking that they would know better how to fix it. When they took the car, they told me 3-4 weeks but now it will be 2 months this week and every time I call them, I keep getting a response that it will be another 2-3 weeks. When the accident happened, my battery was around 68%. Today my battery is at 65%. Since I have the FordPass app and securialert enabled, I can see that once every few days they open the tailgate and doors and hood but most of the time, there is no activity. So my questions are:
  1. Is it normal for repairs to take this long for an EV? They haven't even started anything other than body work (i.e. mechanical, paint) so I am expecting another month for a total of 3 months.
  2. My battery would not have been charged for close to 3 months when I get it back. Will that affect the battery's life long term?
  3. I loved the Mach-E before this happened. Will I run into other issues because the car was idle for so long and should I consider trading it in for a new one instead?
Thanks in advance.

Answers to 2 and 3: The high voltage battery will be fine. The car will not be harmed. Ford recommends that when the car will be stored you do so with a battery charge in the middle range. It's slightly better for long-term health.

My previous Mach E went in for a small paint job but the job required parts. It took almost a month. Based on my visitS, it usually took about 2-3 weeks for parts to come in.

You mentioned that the body shop is associated with Ford dealership. Based on my Mach E experience with associated body shop with Ford, I would worry more about the workmanship. These workers may not know Mach E as well as Ford technicians. It possible that some seals might be missing or get destroyed when the car is put back together. I would look for loose emblem, nicked paint near emblems, broken rubber door and tailgate seals, and rubber pads on glasses. I would take hi-res video AND pictures of the whole car in and out during the pick up.

Makes me feel a bit better about this. Thanks

Thanks for the advice! I definitely sense that I made a mistake taking it to a ford body shop. I’ll remember to take lots of pics and videos when I pick it up.

Don’t diminished value claims occur at the time of incident? I honestly don’t know.
From what the insurance company told me, it’s after the repairs are completed.

I feel your pain...3 days old...some maroon T-boned me when she pulled out of a parking lot as I went by...she got cited, and her insurance accepted 100% liability...now awaiting parts for repair.

It makes sense that little will be done until all the parts arrive. Once dismantled it would need to be kept inside in a bay for “who knows how long”. You wouldn’t want it left outside with everything exposed.

Curious to see what they do. Right now with todays market on car parts so many cars are getting totaled for such minor accidents. My wife got rear ended on the right side, frame was good, just damage to the back, fully drivable.. It was $21,000 to fix it!!!! They paid us $31,000 to total it out, we paid around $32,000 for it brand new in 2020.... So basically cost us 2ish grand to drive it for 2.5 years. The part prices were absurd and the turn around time was worse.

1) Has nothing to do with it being an EV.
2) Fine.
3) No.

The diminished value valuation should be as of the time of the accident. PAYMENT won't occur until all repairs are done.

I didn't realize that this would be for the time of the accident!
