Hi Mach Fam,
I have 2021 Mach E GTPE and this morning I got a low tire pressure notification. The cars been driven 50 miles the last month since we’ve been home with our newborn. Today when I drove to my office which is 12 miles away and I was going a total of 30 mph on the 405 I received the low tire pressure notification at 28 psi. I checked the tires and noticed the inside of all 4 tires were balding. There was the inner tire metal showing. I took it to a tire shop and they said this is too much wear and tear and that I needed new tires and an alignment. This shouldn’t happen with these tires. I got their quotes and then took it to the dealer and ford said it was just common wear and tear and that I had to pay for it. I then took it to another Tire shop and they said this is way too much wear and tear for 22k and that it could be suspension and alignment. Now I’m in a dilemma for how to fix this issue and I wanted to see if others have had similar issues.
I had two Camaros before this and a GTO. I have not been driving this car hard at all and it’s literally been to and from work. The car also feels a bit rough and bouncy. What can I do to convince the dealer to test the suspension and alignment. Any advice would be appreciated as I’m looking for some direction here. Thank You

I would take it to a different ford dealer or contact the ford BEV team directly.

You have z rated tires the compound is soft and they wear faster, I'd be thrilled if I got 22k out of my p zeros on my gt. Is it possible they've been underinflated as well? Add to those factors the higher weight of the mach e.

I'd think you'd have to use your dime to have alignment and suspension checked. If they find it's bad then perhaps you have a claim. But I wouldn't count on it.

I'm curious tho, don't you at least eyeball your tires from time to time?

Do a google search on limited longevity of pirelli p zero summer tires and you'll see hundreds of threads on the subject.

22k is actually pretty good for the OEM GTPE summer tires. As Chris said, many users here did not even get that many miles out of them; there's lots of threads on this topic. I have 14k on mine and plan to replace before 20k. The tire shop should have known that these P Zeros wear fast. Even if you are not driving hard your car is heavy and you probably accelerate faster than you think since it's so easy in the GTPE.

I recommend all seasons if you want longer-lasting tires. There's lots to choose from.

Check out Mark's very detailed guide here if you want recommendations.

Are these the original tires? If so they are the Summer Ultra-High Performandce tires. They have a very soft tread compound. Several of our members never made it past 5K miles on those tires. Due to illnesses in the family I drove mine very sedately for almost all of its first 2 years and I still only got 16.5K miles from the tires. 20K and more is actually an impressive amount of distance to get out of these. These tires are meant for high-performance driving and because of that do not have a mileage warranty. ??

The tire shops you have been to probably either didn’t inspect the tires well enough to realize that they are Summer tires or they just don’t know that their type of tire wears insanely fast. In any event, the solution for the limited distance you can get out of the tires is to put all-season tires on it. The drawback there is that the majority of the GT-PE performance advantage over the GT is the tire. It hooks better off the line and corners better than the GT’s all-season. There are compromises everywhere, but if you don’t drive the car hard or don’t care about its performance, the all-season tire is a good choice. As for choices to make, there are several threads here on that @markboris has contributed much to those threads. ??

Time to buy new tires.

You should be inspecting them every 10k miles.

Alignment definitely isn’t covered under warranty. But if wear isn’t even, you should have it checked when you replace the tires.

If the edges are more worn than the middle, it could be the alignment, how you drive, or your tire pressure. Did you keep it at 39 psi or above the whole time?

Guessing not if you got it down to 28 psi without noticing.

FWIW, mine only lasted 11k miles (all city driving). And I rotated and did an alignment at 6k.

I guess I should note that I rotated my original tires every 3K miles since they are so soft. ??
