And just to rub salt in the wound, Polestar 2 Perf Pack upgrade reviews hitting now. Upgrade available OTA to older 2s as well. Polestar is clearly easing the launch the first 30 mph and then letting it eat. That’s the 1/4 mile trap speed the GTs should have been hitting.

They don’t ease the launch, they just don’t have the torque we do. 502 tq isn’t going to launch like our 634 lb/ft.

Insane torque explains why our 0-60 is so good.

Trap speed is an indicator of the horsepower and how we should be if Ford didn’t cripple us.

A fair question could be: would I give up 130 tq in order to keep 480 hp all the time?

Honestly? No. If I had to pick one, I would take our brutal acceleration up to 70 mph vs decent acceleration all the time.

I really want both. But if I had to pick, I’ll keep what I got.

No, they do ease the launch, I’ve driven a Polestar 2 and a GT so I know. True, the GT has 600-634 tq, but, the Polestar’s 500 ft lbs and awd is capable of more than they allow it to put down until it’s rolling 20+ mph. Similar in feel to a 4X and then after 20-25mph it’s like whoa. Polestar is def limiting initial launch torque well under 500 ft lbs. Go drive one, you’ll concur.

But you’re definitely going to feel 130 less torque.

That said, Ford limits us too. We don’t get full torque until around 25 mph. That’s why I spin the tires at launch, then again at 25 mph.

It’s not a bad thing though. 634 lb ft at 0 mph….. we wouldn’t get traction.

There are many newer cars that are limited at launch for the same reason Mach1E said and it has to do with traction. My GT500 has 625 lb ft torque (actually a bit more since it is tuned) and it's rear wheel drive. You can imaging if all that torque was allowed at launch what would happen on two wheels. I don't get that torque fully until I'm at least going 60 mph or so.

I spoke with Shelby American a couple months ago at SEMA. They said they are working on some power updates, but I could not pin them down to anything specific. The rep just hinted and smiled when I asked if they would unlock more power. We'll have to wait and see, but it might be a while - or it might not come to pass for current vehicles as there are some inherent design limitations.

it is 100% possible. Ford is testing an E-version of the Cobra and it is smoking model S Plaids. Not street legal…but no question you can get more power with the right components.

The Mustang Cobra Jet 1400 is purely a technology testbed. It's an electric drag car. I can't imagine it shares many components with the Mach E. It has different motors and inverters and 4 motors vs. 2. The fact that the Cobra Jet exists has little to do with our production Mach-Es.

Probably the biggest (and safest) gains would come from weight reduction - this is a fat pig! Carbon fiber hood, rear seat delete, lightweight seats, etc.

If you want to go nuts, there are a lot of high power, high efficiency power electronic options out there - but they are $$$$.

I ran a super light wheel/tire combo and there was a noticeable increase in acceleration.

You can find 18" wheels that should fit a regular GT and do a 245/55/18 around 46lbs so about 12lbs per wheel tire less
