Watching through some newer YouTube videos, I came across this one by Josip Recov claiming to be a walk around of the *2022* Mach-E GT (performance) in Europe. The video was shot in Munich, I assume just in the last week.

Nothing shown seemed different to me with exception of this little nugget of detail. Zooming in on the shot of the key fob you’ll notice that it includes opener buttons for both the rear lift gate and the front trunk/frunk!

Personally I’d love to have this keyfob configuration. It’d be far more useful than the panic button.

Other than this, I don’t know if the labeling of the video as a 2022 model is accurate or specific to Europe. Or maybe Europe does model years differently than North America. Other features and specs appear unchanged.

I'll be buying a new fob should they get that working here in the states. I was actually waiting to get a second one (thanks ford) on the hopes they would add this.

It already does in some parts of Europe.

I think it's very likely that the fobs coming with the 2022 MMEs in North America will have a frunk button.

If that is true, I really hope I can get a 2022 fob and program it to work with my 2021 MME.

I have no doubt that you will be able to. It's the reason I'm leaving two available slots in my MME, so I can just purchase 2 new fobs when available, program them myself and put the 2 frunkless fobs in a drawer.

I’d like to think so, but I don’t know if there’s a North American regulation or maybe just a market convention to have the panic button. Perhaps the panic button is a vestige of days when people lost track of their parking spots in big lots. I certainly don’t use it and always fear accidentally hitting it anyway.

Especially with mobile apps and built-in GPS, the need of the panic button is further reduced.

What do you mean by “leaving two available slots”?

The panic button will remain. There's still room for a frunk button.
