I picked up my Mach E Premium EX4 three weeks ago. I love this car so far, but I have 2 issues. The sales man doesn't help much on these 2 issues.
1. The range is always much less than the nominal number. The premium ER 4X suppose to have a range of 270 mile, but I am keep getting something like 188mile range with 88% charge level, that translates to about 220 mile range. Is this normal?
2. The schedule charging never works. I setup all the weekday, weekend schedule and plug in the charging cable. The charging never starts and stops at the right time.

Did anyone has the similar problem?
This is very frustrating.

reset the driving history. The car will figure out your miles based on driving habits. I've been watching mine over the past week. and I went from about 190miles @ 90% to 245miles @ 90% this morning.. edit.. meant 90%

The range estimate is just that - an "estimate". It is frequently referred to as the "guess-o-meter", and what it displays is not the true range you can expect. In fact, it is a very conservative guess, particularly in colder conditions. To compute your actual range, track the mi/kwh number in the tripometer and multiply that by 88.

This comes up all the time, and in fact the Mach E will easily meet its EPA ratings in warmer weather. In cold weather the battery efficiency is affected (and the heater takes a lot of juice), so it will be a little short of the EPA range in wintertime.

Do yourself a favor and stop being frustrated. Ignore estimated range number it is meaningless. Look at miles per kWh. If that number is more than 3, you have your range. If it's less, look at where the power goes. It may be that you're driving too fast, or the outside temp is too hot or too cold (If you're in San Diego, that's unlikely), or maybe you driving the climate control too much.

I’ve finally learned to stop paying too much attention to the range meter and to just look at the battery gauge. Drive your car the way you would a gas car. With a gas car, you aren’t always looking at the DTE display, you look at the gas gauge. Do the same with your Mustang Mach E. Look at the battery gauge. If you’re doing a lot of driving every day and are below a half a tank at the end of the day, plug it in before you go to bed so you have a full (90% per the manual recommendation) tank in the morning. If you don’t drive a lot, you only have to worry about plugging in every couple of days. If you have a big trip coming up, be sure to fill up the night before ?

For #2
Tip 1: set the preferred charge schedule from the screen in the car not the FordPass app.

Tip 2: Only set for a max of 23 hours per day. If you leave a one hour gap somewhere in the schedule instead of ‘anytime’ it seems to work fine, at least that’s been my experience. I can technically charge at anytime on the weekends per my utility rate plan but I set the weekend schedule for 12am to 11pm and it’s working fine. If I set the weekends to ‘anytime’ it gets wonky sometimes.

Agreed about setting it from the car

I'm getting over 300 in my FE. It just takes time for the car to guesstimate your range based on driving habits, weather, etc.

??Thanks for all the tips and notes. Will try the tips.
I only have short daily drive, so not much of the range anxiety.
Just a little curious which size of battery exactly under the car. Except for the range number 100% charge, is there any other way to confirm the size of the battery?

The range you achieve is not the range that is shown on the guess'o meter.

To quickly see what sort of range you can expect to achieve without actually running the battery down from 100% to 0 (which no one actually does by the way), simply look at your miles/kwh reading.

The usable capacity of the extended range battery is 88Kwh. Which means to achieve the 270 mile range you need to be seeing about 3miles/Kwh.

Take the miles per kwh you see there and multiply it by 88. That will give you a pretty accurate range estimation.

To make this accurate though, you should drive at least 50 to 100 miles, and then check the average miles per kwh in your trip stats. In other words don't just take the car down the to the corner store to pickup a loaf of bread, and expect the reading to be accurate.

Lastly it takes that guess'o meter quite a bit of driving to learn how you drive before showing you a range estimate that is anywhere what you actually are achieving in reality. With that said though, the estimated range shown there is incredibly pessimistic, and almost always shows you less than what you actually achieve. So basically take that guess (because thats what it is) with a grain of salt, because you will almost certainly go much further than what is shown there. Ford just likes to under promise and over deliver, rather than over promising and leaving you stranded.

Got your point. Thanks everyone for explaining the issue.

Maybe EV can provide more accurate way to represent how much energy still in the battery. Just like the # of gallon of gas still in the tank for ICE car, depending on the road condition, car's weight, tire etc, can be translated to a mileage. Whoever drives the car will have a rough idea how many miles the car can still drive.

Maybe EV can use how much kwh of energy is still left in the battery, and let drivers themselves to decide how many miles that much of energy can produce.

Just a thought.
