I tried to use adaptor that Ford provided for Tesla Fast chargers, cannot get it to work... tried first initiating Tesla app, then plugging in, and then also the other way around, nothing happens...Tesla app says choose location and charger station #, did all this..nothing worked.

Most likely not a compatible charging station. Highly unlikely an adaptor problem.

If it's an incompatible charging station, none of the chargers will work. Not all Tesla Fast Chargers are compatible with Ford(and other manufacturers).

If you're going to use the Tesla app, the first thing you do is enter your vehicle and that you own an adapter.

Then, only compatible stations will show up.

By hitting the directional arrow on the top right of the app, above the question mark, it will move to where you are. If you're at a Tesla charging statin, but it doesn't show where your blue dot is on that map in the app, you're at an incompatible location. Nothing you do will make it work.

Pick charger in app, but don't activate (it may time out).
Plug adapter securely into cord, then hit activate and plug in when it tells you to.

If you're going to plug in first, that's for using Ford's Plug and Charge. You need to make up your mind which you're using.

I'd like to add that PlugShare will show you if a Tesla station is compatible with non-Teslas. I've been using it to play my next road trip and scout for compatible charging stations.

thx for all the detail, Rick. So you’re saying I don’t have to use the Tesla app I can use the Ford one?

Using the Tesla adapter was easy. Be sure is a Supercharger station. Ultra fast one. My Ford Pass worked without hiccups. I didn't have to use Tesla app.

I tried 3 Tesla stations at same location, they have 25 stations there.
Where is here? Not all Tesla SC are compatible. Even if it had 25 at the location you were at if they were not V3 or V4 or the site was restricted to Tesla only it wouldn’t work.

This.

Not all Supercharger stations are open to non Tesla cars. None of the V2 units ever will be available to non Teslas and not all V3 stations are open to non Tesla vehicles. Use the proper filters in the Tesla app or use the charging app in the car to determine which are open to non teslas.
