And next year they'll be whining about not having 1600V,

or not having the CCS2 (EU standard, from the same folks that brought us the Metric system) Oh, we still haven't figured that out.

Not to worry, there is a new biofuel coming out of D.C. from our benevolent :asshat:

What seriously?? Did you actually read what I wrote and what I was responding to? The original comment was about the cost and complexity to change to a native NACS port. My point was no cost and no complexity. OK?
How do you differentiate between DC and AC voltage? Where are the safety mechanisms that keep those systems separate once past the port? In the existing CCS setup, they are kept separate by virtue of different sets of power pins that carry the voltage to separate systems. The isolation begins at the charging station.

Have you wondered why the NACS to CCS adapter we have has those big pins, but the NACS to J1772 doesn’t?

Is the UEV platform geared against performance?

I've been assuming that the platform can accommodate any level of performance, through variations in motors and battery sizes and so on, within the platform specs. Is this not the case?

I understand UEV is based on 400v charging, so charging speeds will not be exciting, but otherwise I am not aware of any reason why UEV vehicle performance could not be very high.
If they use exclusively LFP batteries then yes.

LFP batteries have a lower discharge rate than NMC and therefore cannot support the performance levels of the Mach-E GT or even the extended range AWD.

Yes, China does have some LFP powered supercars but that level of battery advancement is not what Ford or most others are utilizing or building.

I don’t think there’s anything specific that would prevent them from using NMC in the future on the platform, but a major part of the platform is utilizing a structural house-made battery pack and Ford is only planning on building LFP batteries at its BlueOval Battery Park in Michigan.

A few of us have been speculating that the Mach-E will be killed “soon”, given there is not a gen 2 by 2027. This article confirms that opinion. Most of the conquest customers (like me) will likely be gone and will probably never return to the Ford brand.

What made the Mach-E special is having 60 years of Mustang design language to pull from. And the brand image of a “muscle car”, which fits well with the EV capabilities of speed and handling. I wouldn’t be caught dead driving an escape or a bronco or a truck for that matter. So why would I stay? The dealer experience? Pls try not to laugh.

So where would people like me find a new home? Rivian got it wrong with their “adventure theme”. I don’t need off-road tires to conquer my very urban neighborhood. Tesla is deplorable and will never be an option. And the Germans seem to still be lost in the Black Forest.

Pretty depressing. I hope that the battery holds up till someone gets some sense in their noggin.
Many comments on our next EV in the GT/ GTPE thread. What next ? And many of us were early adopters and love our MME’s.

My present direction is keep the MME til the wheels fall off . Granger extended warranty for bumper to bumper when my 48 month 48k extended warranty expires. And the GTPE may just stay in the family - and then what ?

new battery tech and the new EVs may be an option in 2027-28. Or just a used Tycan bought well .

No, It is just barely more than a connector. A NACS to CCS1 adaptor like most of us have is made up of two HV DC pins to swap polarity position and adapt connectors, a couple of low voltage signal pins, a ground return pin, a low voltage thermal switch (or two) and a low voltage microswitch. The software protocol is compatible and there are no smarts in it.

Most of the cost is in the thick copper buss bars and injection molding. These are already part of an integrated NACS port. So no extra cost.
Except when trying to use a CCS1 or J1772 charger...
At least we don't have CHADEMO!

Yes I saw that - used EV,s may be my choice until new tech offers alternatives. Interesting how diverse new vehicle development continues in the EV space while ICE now seems so stale

The other 95.7% is focusing on Solar, EV, Wind, GeoThermal sustainability. They don't realize that carbon is the future.
Look at this happy lad! No wonder our glorious :asshat: wants to decimate education and have more babies, while he and his billionaire BFFs plan for an escape via muskX.
