Searching the web, I was unable to find any discussion of this issue. I've been looking at a '23 GT/PE nearby, The dealer has listed the MSRP at$72k in several places (their site, verbally stated it as such, and various car sites) but the window sticker on the car and downloadable from their site, clearly states the MSRP as $59,990 (same as their "real" asking price). Is this common, why would they do this and what sort of strategy would be best to address this? In my state, the tax is based on the MSRP and the difference works out to about 20% higher.

My understanding is that '23s went through a price drop in February. The GTPE in particular dropped big time (likely about 12-13k). You are probably seeing the original window sticker as opposed to the revised one. The revised one would show a date in Feb (I think Feb 22). Some dealers didnt update their web sites and it may be stale showing original.

I believe using this web site you can see the revised/current one, if there is one:

https://www.windowsticker.forddirect.com/windowsticker.pdf?vin=

Put the VIN at the end of that.

Sounds like a dealership focused on screwing over customers.

They were re-invoiced lower, so the tax should be based on the new lower MSRP.

Just to clarify, the $59k is on the sticker while the $72k is what shows on listings and what the salesman stated is the actual. They're using the $72k as the basis of how good the deal is.

My dealer claimed they paid the higher (still not MSRP) invoice and they took the hit when Ford dropped the price. Aka the original sticker before Ford dropped it.

I didn’t really care, and still used the loss of the tax credit to argue for the price to drop even more. But that was their claim.

I see - the reality is those 23 GTPEs are selling in the upper 40s at some dealers. Dont pay anywhere near MSRP for a 23 GTPE.

I would've thought Ford would credit the dealers for the price change since it's Ford's decision to drop them. Ford should be taking the hit, not the dealers.?

I bought my 2023.0 GTPE in April for just under 54K, before my trade in. The sticker said almost 72K. The dealer told me they had lowered the price substantially and Ford was giving an extra 3K off. They had it listed on his website for the price I paid, and he changed the tires to all seasons from the summer tires it had to make the deal. They also had 0% for 72 months on GT's, and they also gave me a really good deal on my trade. I felt it was fair then, things may have come down more since. He had 4 of them when I bought mine. I just checked his website, and he only has one left.

I don’t worry about MSRP. I just look at what I can get a competing car for. I got a quote for a Tesla Model Y with the same features I wanted on the MME and then shopped that price to every Ford dealer within 100 miles. I paid about 10,000 below the MSRP.
I also got a KBB cash offer on my trade before I offered it. It made them raise offer $3,000.
The dealer I ultimately purchased from is 90 miles from me, but they delivered it to me and took my trade back.
One side note: based on your MSRP it may be a 2023.0 that came with BlueCruise and the charger included. Cars manufactured starting in July have a $7,500 lower starting price, but BC and the charger are extra cost options.

They did. Dealers that said they didn't are simply LYING.
