Serious question,

I have had my MM for a few months now. Over the weekend, I had my first chance to honk at someone. After applying the horn, my first thought was "was that noise produced by a traditional horn or was it produced by an electronic sound"

Who knows??

It's a traditional horn. It's easier to tell if you experience the walk-away honk (which many people have disabled using Forscan). Simply leave your car running, and get out of the car, and it will beep at you quite obnoxiously!

Had mine parked in the garage with the windows open. Came out to go to work, I set my bag on the passenger seat through the open window and the alarm started going off (even though I tell it to disable motion sensors when I park but whatever). My immediate thought was, wow that's a really pathetic sounding horn, sounds like it should be on a golf cart, but definitely sounds like a horn and not a speaker.

That's the real kicker. When the alarm goes off the horn is a whisper. When you get out of the car with the fob in your pocket you get two full volume blasts. SMH.

What many are unaware of is there are three horns. There are the traditional high and low pitch horns, then there is the separate alarm horn. The alarm horn is weaker sounding than the normal horns.

The normal high and low pitch horns are located behind the front lower section of the fenders left and right. The alarm horn is located behind the left fender at the top.

Part numbers in case anyone interested are:
Left horn: LJ9Z-13832-C
Right horn: LJ9Z-13801-A
Alarm horn: LJ9Z-13832-B

That would be my question, Rick. Maybe it was easier to just add a horn to the alarm system instead of integrating it with the existing horns? But why not make the alarm horn really loud instead of weak sounding?

I'm happy with the horn in the MME. My Mazda3 horn is high pitched and weak.

It’s been my experience that Japanese horns are of the “excuse me, please” school of thinking. It’s why my street Celica had the same optional 1969 Cadillac tri-horn setup my Coupe de Ville had that sound like a freight train coming at you. Scared more than a few drivers out of their socks with that. 😁🐩
