So as a tech guy and reading through a number of posts of software glitches, especially after an update, I have decided to turn off my auto update. My ME GT is not even 30 days old and, knock on wood, I have not seen any software glitches yet.

I am assuming that if an update is available, when I do a manual update check it will let me know that there is one. And then at that point, I can, hopefully, read up on what the update is all about and then WAIT for a month or so to see what everyone is experiencing after the update before I apply it to mine.

I just did not want an update to be installed and start giving me some weird glitches or intermittently affect certain functions in the vehicle that WAS working before the update. The old adage, don't fix it unless its broken, applies here. Now I know, there is no way to know 100% what glitches will come with an update but unless one is having an issue that an update specifically addresses, then I believe one should just wait a bit.

Thoughts?

Agree. I'd wait a lot longer than a month to install, unless the update includes something very useful.

There is a thread where I posted what happens with Auto Update turned off. You still receive notification when an update is ready and you can choose to accept it. If you accept then it moves to the next step which is downloading the packet and installing it. Or if it is an inhibit update then it downloads and then asks you to schedule the installation.

Easy Peasy.

After 2 weeks, it goes away so you probably want to do your research before the 2 week mark. I have no clue if it tries again or not.

If you're not in early access, someone else probably got the update a month before you. As noted by Greg, you need to make your update decision within about a week of the update showing up on your car before it goes away.

OK good to know. TY.

And oh BTW, does it give you a notification of a new update in the Ford Pass mobile app as well?

Yes. If you click on it then it tells you to get in the car and accept the update.

In the car there is a little icon that appears next to the car. The down arrow means there is a download available. If you touch that icon then you get some more information.

If you choose to accept the update then the icon goes away while the package downloads. There are two basic types that I have seen. Those that can install while you are using the car and those that require the car to be parked and locked for the installation to occur. If you get the first type and navigate to the System Update screen while it's downloading then you get this message.

After a few hours you will see another icon with a check mark, or an exclamation point or a lock. The checkmark says the updated installed okay. The exclamation point means it failed and the lock means the car has to be parked to finish the update.

Am I the only person who has never gotten an OTA update? Car is a job 2 GT and I’ve had it since Feb… it’s had lots of mixed miles, big city, small city, small town, big town… freeway, highway, everywhere in between and never an update.

No YouTube, no AC button.

what’s the special handshake???

If true, that is abnormal and should be investigated. You should have gotten the recall and GWM updates by now.

Wow, really? "Special handshake"? It is called a secret handshake, and there is a reason that it is called that (hint - it's secret). ;)

i got the recall done in person at Ford. I am not sure what the GWM is. I had a Gear control module replaced that was defective.

I do not have the AC button or YouTube streaming so that means I’m behind the OTA curve right?
