New EV – GTPE owner impressions
I did not find one easy thread on new owner learnings and tips so let me start ….
Background First EV – 2023 GTPE with 2200 miles. Purchased remotely and shipped to me from a dealer in MD. My dealer here could not offer rebates (AGI dependent) and it appears used / demo / partially new MME GTPE’s are quite affordable. I had to wait to clear the purchase and get it shipped so I had many questions while waiting.
Fear of the Unknown The manual is a great place to start. Al 496 pages are available on line. But we found YouTube videos very informative. And do not feel intimidated (as we were! ) you will learn many aspects and features over time. And you can just get in and drive the car and learn as you go. Yes you can….just drive the car.
Ford Pass - Get you and your car active on FordPass – on your phone. Activate at / in the car. Add a credit card for payments such as charging.
Charging – I had the 220 Level 2 wiring installed in the garage. My local energy company will provide a credit for wiring installation. I am using the provided Ford Mobile charger ( many opinions here ) and found my 60 amp breaker is more than adequate for the 32A “charger” . The more sophisticated may want to use a third party charger such as the Classic Grizzl-E Charger. My energy company would also sell me a charger. The free Ford Mobile charger works and I can set the charging time in the car to meet local rate savings. We simply plug it in and it starts charging at the most advantageous times for my local power provider, And it is about 9 hours for a Full ( 10% to 100%) charge at home. You can set the times and % - on the MME tablet. I am only charging to 90% now at home for improved battery life (?) Third party chargers will draw more amps and charge quicker.
On the road charging- Ford Pass is available and I await my free Tesla adapter from Ford. Looking forward to using navigation to direct me to a charger and pre-condition the GTPE before we arrive at that charger. We have read and we will learn more as we use these features. We plan to use FordPass for payment and connectivity and that should include the Tesla chargers. And looking forward to trying DC fast charging !
Driver Profiles – set them up in the car. You can set your seat positions ( 1, 2 or 3) and mirrors and radio stations for each driver. And connect your phone(s) per profile. Sirus is free for first year ….be be aware they will automatically begin charging you at a high monthly rate. Monitor and manage this “automatic subscription” service.
Car Connectivity. I believe that Ford provides connectivity for the car for the first three years. I am unaware how to sign up to add the AT&T service for connectivity. I see my car is connected. And I am getting updates so no action until required. I will add local Wifi because we can…..
Tires and Wheels Many threads and lots of information. I must get winter tires for the GTPE that will work at cold temps. And used takeoff rims seem problematic for fit on the GTPE - and not cost beneficial. I will just get snow tires/rims from TireRack or another source.
Rear Compartment –Tire Kit ! Surprise the rear compartment floor/door has multiple levels! ! I was surprised and can use the space for storage. Ford had a Mustang Mach-E Tire Compressor R2HC-19L523-AA kit. None was in my car but I found one and will store that under the floor.
Other learnings -will just happen. We will look to lock / unlock the car with our phones. And I learned I must disable my Bluetooth so my partner phone will not connect. Valet mode will be used. I will also l set up a guest profile with seat way back……The exit and enterance seat setting will only move 2 inches. I will touch the brakes occasionally to keep the rotors clean. And I guess scheduled maintenance ( rotate the tires?) every 5000 miles.
