I placed an order for a SR Premium AWD Vapor Blue on May 3, 2023. It seems my order continues to experience one delay after another. Was supposed to go into production in late July, that got pushed back to late August, and here we sit in late September and still no idea when the car will be done. Based on the information from this forum, this just seems to be typical.

In the meantime, I noticed a pre-owned 2021 Select AWD Infinite Blue has become available at our local CarMax and I will be test driving it this week. The vehicle is one owner with a clean Carfax and less than 30k miles on it. The specs seem to be similar to the Premium I ordered as this is a model that has the comfort package with heated & memory seats. The price difference vs. new is substantial.

Looking for advice whether I should wait it out for the new one to arrive or take the risk on the pre-owned and save the difference in price. The compromises I would make for a used Select seem to be relatively minor, but I am missing something I need to mindful of?

Any advice from the knowledgeable owners from this forum would be appreciated.

Minor?

No BlueCruise if it lacks the tech package.
May not have been updated to have BlueCruise if it has the tech package.

Check to see if it has any open recalls, like the windshield and roof (replaced windshield, reseal roof in place).

Selects don’t have the pano roof though, correct? One less bullet to dodge.

I can not believe that there are not any new cars available anywhere in your area. I would certainly look around. Maybe the deals are gone but I heard that even 0% financing was available on some.

If I were in the market for an ER Premium or GT I'd be set as there are many of those available at dealers in my area. Unfortunately the cupboard is empty for new SR Premiums or Selects. The 2023 SR Premium or Select vehicles in a 50 mile radius show as "Dealer Ordered" in Ford's inventory. There is nothing on the lot.

If you don't mind traveling, the dealer I got my car from has this grabber blue Select that has been on the lot since my car arrived in early June. They also have a SR Premium in space white that arrived at the same time.

I originally bought a new Premium AWD ex and just traded it for a used GTPE. This is a personal preference but I usually buy used as a few year old car is a bargain compared to a new one.

One thing I found out is a used MME won't Plug and charge. Ford has some kind of issue that only the original owner can plug and charge supposedly fix is in the works.

I did see this one that's not that far from you

in my situation $9k in gov rebates on new.

2 yr old used Mach-e's going for near new prices around here

Until the rebates run out, it makes no sense to buy used

Rarely do people buy the Premium SR. The reason you see a lack of SR vehicle is that dealers waited for the new battery to be produced in the 2023.5s, and sold their existing inventory IMO. And now the new ones are enroute.

This does not mean it can’t DCFC, it just doesn’t work to drive up and plug in to charge. You’ll need to activate the charger via FP and it works. (Just a FYI for the OP)

I’m following suit in the prem4x ~> GTPE as well, someday

Correct, I need to use the individual company's apps to initiate charging. In my area it's mostly EVGO and Electrify America. So that's all I have tried

I spoke with the folks at ford they tell me that plug and charge will be fixed soon. It's not that big of a deal and I pay for pass + through EA

Yep, I've had that same conversation with the BEV team for 6 months. Except I'm not even listed as an actual owner of my car, that I bought in January this year.
