This is my first Mustang. And it being a Mustang was a big selling point for me. Had they launched the Ford Fairlane BEV or the Ford Galaxie 500 BEV or something equally stupid (I’m looking at YOU Ford Tempo), I would have closed the webcast window immediately, hopped onto ETrade and sold my F stock.
I, too, was thrilled that they named it Mustang.
Similarly, I'm happy that they chose F-150 as their second BEV vehicle.

It shows, to me, that Ford is invested enough in BEVs that they'll put two of the most recognizable vehicle brands on the line to bring BEVs to market. More than any words they could have said, the choice of name communicated their commitment.

At least that's my take on it.

It would also be interesting to add an option, is this your first Ford. First Mustang and first Ford for me. I've been VERY impressed, even with the growing pains.

Trying to hold that thought as I picked up my base trim Escape loaner car with 30k rough miles on it yesterday while the recalls are done. I may have to start opening the door and pushing with my feet to get some acceleration! :)

I worked as a Lot Boy at a Ford Lincoln Mercury dealership way back. A little old lady traded in her Red 1990 Mustang 5.0L LX. When I saw it I knew. The Sales Manager sold it to me for the trade in price of $5k (Canadian) so $1k U.S. Lol. I loved that car. Anyway, the car is long gone, but I kept my old keychain. I can’t wait to install it on my MME fob, 30 years later.

First ford. Previous included many models of VWs and Chevy with a Toyota and a Tesla thrown in there. Counting all cars I was responsible for care as part of my "Dad duties".
All car companies are the same. Except Tesla, but they are just evil in different ways.

I don't know how you can remotely claim the Mustang II as being the Edsel of its day. Ford sold over a million of them.
You're right, it was an overstatement. As I recall it was criticized as not being a true Mustang, similar to some reactions to the Mach-E today. The Mustang II actually had more roots in the Pinto than earlier Mustangs, which may have contributed to its short history. The Mustang II was only around for a couple years and I remember buying it in 1975 for its gas economy. There was an oil embargo going on and people were looking for alternatives to gas guzzlers. I also remember being disappointed overall with this car and having a very difficult time selling it or trading it in because they lost popularity. My next car was a new Plymouth Duster that cost $3,003 and the dealer didn't want the Mustang II in trade.

The Pinto-based Mustang II was around from model years 1974 to 1978, so 5 years.. The fox body showed up for MY 1979.

when I first got a 'real job' after college, I bought an '82 5.0L GT.... not new, but only a couple years old.. y'know the one with the front air dam that dropped straight down. Fun to drive, and made a hell of a snow plow.

I drove the crap out of it....

It got hailed on so bad it broke the mirrors off! I kept the insurance money and drove the crap out of it for a couple more years. ;)

Then bought a '66 Sunbeam Tiger.... Shelby's first English-Ford racer. Had a sweet little Ford 260/289 motor in it that had all the period go-fast stuff. 4 spd top-loader, Essentially a mustang drivetrain....

No pics she was a green 2001 with leaking exhaust manifolds, leaking top, and faded headlights. But man those were times in that car as a teenager.

Once upon a time I had a ‘67 coupe with an inline 200 and a 3 speed stick. It was a lovely candy apple primer.

I was the fourth owner a beautiful 1967 green mustang with all the deluxe interior trim and hood. My parents were the third owners and they picked it up in 1976. It was built in the Fremont, California Ford plant so it had only gone 30 miles from where it was built to San Jose, CA. I had close to 200K and the heads had not been touched. Only reason it is not sitting in my garage now was that is was six cylinder and I was not going to put $20K into restoring a six banger. I guess you can count the 1974....errr... Mustang II... if you call it that...my first car. I would call it a Pinto with a mustang badge. What a dog. My friends would drag race me....me in my car and they were next to me running. They won. ;)
