Are Tesla superchargers in Europe different

Ya. In Europe Tesla is required to use the CCS standard, the same one most EVs these days use. That’s why Tesla did the pilot program in Europe, no adapters needed.
They have said they have a plan for how to secure adapters at supercharger locations in the US, when/if they open that up.

Thanks. Are Tesla superchargers in Europe different bc it looks like Tesla has opened up its supercharger network to non-Teslas in Europe as part of a pilot program, so there must be some type of adapter over there.

I think Tesla opened 2 chargers at 1 location in the back woods of Belgium behind a locked gate as their pilot program. I think the salesperson was spewing optimistic marketing wankiteering. Eventually there will be a uniform charging standard, and it probably won't be Tesla's- imagine if you had to go to a Ford gas station to fill up your ICE-Stang.

I believe that for that pilot, Tesla installed dual cables on their superchargers, a Tesla plug and a CCS plug.

Some chargers are universal (i.e. CCS), but many are not.

yes, it's widely speculated on the internet that those within tesla inner-circle are toying with opening up their charge network to the EV populace in effort to make money. They're losing marketshare to all the new EVs and it would become a revenue stream. Today it generates very little if any revenue to Tesla due to the R&D, build-out, and offering it free to owners.

I know that this post is a little old, but I just received my Mach-E 2 weeks ago, and was not given any Tesla adapters. The dealer said that Ford doesn't even sell them (or have them available through your FordPass rewards).

Uh huh. You can buy a TeslaTap or Lectron adapter for Tesla Destination Chargers (Level 2). No such thing exists for Superchargers.

Correct. I just ordered a Lectron adapter. Just pointing out that Ford themselves don't sell one. But thank you for the heads up.
