Excellent photo and car.I know this is a joke car(Tesla), but I’ve got a question for everybody. is there a reason the material used in this car I used to have back in the 80s is no longer used? I remember I could hit this, and you couldn’t make a mark/dent on it. First, it would definitely help a little with the weight of the vehicle and second it’s great in a hailstorm because it would be much more resilient!
The Pontiac Fiero was made out of a plastic type material. I don’t know exactly what it was, but it was definitely flexible.

I imagine it’s a mix of a few things.
1. Material sciences and manufacturing have really improved but I bet the priorities are more around weight, safety, and noise.
2. Paint is different now with more eco-friendly requirements. Also it seems like most car manufacturers don’t let the paint cure properly before delivery. This all means you end up with more paint dings and scratches.
