I hope this is OK to post, I'm not affiliated with this company, but after having a bad experience with another, I had a great experience with this one and just wanted to share for anyone in their service area needing an installation.

I won't blast the company I had issues with, although I would love to, but after 3 weeks of being d*cked around I ended up looking up Tesla charger installers in my area and saw RF Electric on the list and reached out to them and a few others. Within an hour they had sent me a form to fill out, requesting pictures of the electrical panel, and location where I wanted the charger installed. They have a template they provide with the pictures they are looking for - its so simple to do, and easier than having to wait and schedule someone to come out and look at everything (and they didn't charge a fee.. some places that got back to me wanted $$$ for the estimate, which would have been applied to the job. I know thats normal, but it wasn't necessary here). They had a few questions, specifically because the electric panel is on one side of my house and the installation was the opposite side. I sent a few more pictures and a quick phone call later and we had a plan sorted out on how to do it and I received a quote.

3 business days later the team was at the house doing the work. It took about 3.5 hours and it came out great and I couldn't be happier. I spoke with the owner this morning and was telling him how pleased I was with the service and he mentioned that the team he sent over did about 250 EV charger installs last year and will most likely be topping it this year, its pretty much all those guys do; its a nice niche they've settled into. They are based in central Jersey and do most of that area, but if you are somewhat local I'd highly recommend reaching out if you need a home charger installed.

Do you mind posting how much it cost and what were the specifics like how much ft of wiring, panel upgrades etc, that were needed?

Total cost was $1500 which included:
  • Permits
  • Approx 125' of wiring and 30' of conduit (through my basement, up one side of my house, across the attic, down the other side)
  • 60Amp Circuit.
No panel upgrade needed, already had the capacity for it.

That’s not too bad considering the 125 feet of 6/3 cable is probably $550-800 alone

Thanks for the recommendation. I’m in their area so will contact them. I still wonder if the busier installers know that we can get $1500 back from PSE&G so that’s what they charge.

I was wondering that, but somewhat unfortunately, I don't like in a PS&G area - I'm about 3 blocks away from the cutoff, I have JCP&L - I did tell him that hoping he'd knock a few bucks off since I wasn't eligible for the rebates, but he did say thats just what the pricing was for my setup..

Might be onto something with installers charging around 1500 there.

2 pole 60amp QO breaker in a 240v dedicated line, 1" PVC conduit strapped to house, 165' #6 THHN to mount a Tesla charger. Total was $815

I used Ryland Electric in Sparta, NJ, they serve most of NJ including central.

I'll second the endorsement for RF-Electric. Russ (the owner) is very thorough with the preparation and very responsive with emails. One of his guys just installed my ChargePoint today and did a great job. He was polite, friendly and very efficient. He estimates he's done about 1000 of these over the past few years. I watched him work and everything looked second nature. Cost was reasonable and they help get all the paperwork needed for the PSE&G rebate. Highly recommended for central NJ (they are based in South Plainfield).
