Hi friends. Sorry if there's a specific thread about this but I didn't see anything. If a mod needs to merge or delete and direct me that way, I'm totally ok with that.

Wanted to see if anyone else has had this issue. As the title states, my car will not charge at level 2. It will at level 1 and level 3 but not level two. Since this is obviously the way I will need to charge the car (and well, it's kinda the way these things work) it's unusable. My local Ford dealer has been working on the car for a month. (4 weeks this coming Saturday)

Has anyone here had a similar issue? If so, was there a specific fix? This is completely bizarre to me. I'm not new to EVs but I've never seen anything like this before.

From what the dealer has told me (which is fairly limited) they've reset some system. They've replaced the high voltage cable, and most recently "some part" (they couldn't tell me what it was because they didn't remember and my service advisor wasn't available.

Anyway, looking for any advice if any is possible, on this. I'm stumped and am don't have a lot of faith in this process.

Let me add to, it doesn't matter what level two charger. I've tried them all. I (and the dealership) get the amber ring and then the charge fault message on the app.

@Ford Motor Company can hopefully ask for your VIN and connect you with someone to help the dealer fix your car. 4 weeks sounds like the dealer needs some, ah, additional help. You should also ask Ford to cover a car payment or two, which they claim they will consider after 30 days.

Finally your state probably has a lemon law that kicks in after 30 days. You should also start exploring Ford's buyback program or start the process to lemon law your car.

Are you paying for a rental car this whole time?

In 4 weeks time, hopefully the have Ford tech support involved. If not, they need to - this shouldn’t be that hard to diagnose.
I couldn't imagine either. Hopefully soon. Heading up to the dealership tomorrow to get in front of them for some answers.

I started that process with them. While very kind on their end, it didn't lead to anywhere. My last response from them was to continue working with my dealer as they're the best resource.

The dealership gave me a loaner so we're good there but it's a rental jeep grand Cherokee and it smells terrible.

I'll check into the payment reimbursement. That's pretty cool.

Yeah, I've started looking into that but really don't want to. Even after this experience I doubt we'll keep the car long but if I lemon it then I'll only get what I paid for it. At least with it working properly again I can take advantage of this ridiculous car inventory situation.

All in all, I don't really want to get rid of it. It seems like an incredibly simple fix that either my dealership just isn't equipped to work on it (which is fine, the car is new, just tell me), Ford is very slow to respond to the dealership themselves (which is where the status of my car seems to always be; waiting on Ford to get back to them), or it's something bigger. I just can't understand why the car will let 100kw of energy run through it if it won't let 11.whatever level two is. Beyond me.

Hi there! Will you send us a private message with your VIN and dealership info? I can look into things on my end. Thanks!

There was quite a few owners in the greater Chicago area who experienced Level 2 charging failures which required a software update to relax the thresholds for residential electric service delivery. Begs the question if that patch was included into cars manufactured after April 2021.

Keep us posted !

Will do! Unless our power grid changed recently lol but I've been through three different wall charging combos as well as Ford can't get it to charge in the next city over on too of that it did work just fine for three weeks prior to stopping an hour into a charging session.

But those folks could charge successfully at the dealer (208V vs 240). The OP can’t level 2 anywhere. I doubt it’s the same cause.

My car was affected by the charging threshold. Commercial delivery of service is better quality than residential service delivery and once the update was applied I could charge from home. Last spring, my dealer could do a level 2 charge on my vehicle without a problem.

Just got the car back this evening so very happy about that.

They replaced the high voltage cable (didn't work), the charging port (didn't work) and the SOBDM (fixed the issue)

I understand Ford has a process and definitely respect that but this is what fixed it for us.

Hopefully it stays that way. Thanks for all the help and the concern recently.

I'd be curious to know how much something like that costs outside of warranty and if it's a common failure point in the future.
