The speed limit indicator works just as well with the cameras blocked. I just tried it.
So the text that the marketing dude wrote here is misleading: https://www.ford.com/support/how-to...sist-features/what-is-speed-sign-recognition/

It does not recognize speed signs. It reads the speed sign from the dashboard to adjust speed. That speed itself is GPS based….
Sorry, but you're wrong about this. Which camera did you cover? Not that that proves anything because it could very well be using the map database as a backup source. But there's no question that it's primary source is sign recognition. Maybe you have it turned off?

I taped both off. Try it yourself. It is easy. The information in the booklet appears to be wrong. There seems to be no indication it uses the camera for speed sign recognition.

Technically this is also technically easier and more reliable.
But it be sure that if doesn’t also feed camera info we must find a spot where it seems to see a sign with the camera unblocked and not with camera blocked. Let me try to find that.
Since it uses both, covering the camera proves nothing. You think the setting in Sync doesn't serve a purpose, the owner's manual is wrong, and Ford advertises a feature that doesn't exist?

Right. That's what it says in the owners manual.

Guys, I stand corrected. You are right. It does use the camera as well.

I blocked the front camera and drove around a little do see how the speed limit is different compared to unblinded driving. There were two spots where with the blocked camera it kept the (wrong) gps speed limit, while with the camera uncovered it would switch correctly. So it seems to use the GPS data as base, and then overrides that if it identifies a speed sign with the camera. That makes a lot or sense.

Whoa whoa whoa…listen here pal. I don’t know where you think you are, but this is the internet. We don’t just go around casually saying things like ā€œI stand corrected,ā€ and, ā€œYou are right.ā€

On the internet, we stick to our guns, double-down when proven wrong, and eventually just stop visiting the thread. Got it??
