Looks like they're still working on it. They still have a ways to go.

Thank you! Just got an accidental unplug message from FordPass.

In fact they have a Looong way to go looking at the IPMA and IPC hanging out there. The APIM update(s) will all fall in line after those two are done. And the APIM will repeatedly have updates until Sync 364 is achieved. Also not shown is the GWM (gateway module) which will have updates pop up after other updates have been accomplished. Its a process of "whack-a-mole" until the system arrives at BC readiness with no remaining updates to the IPC, IPMA, APIM, GWM, Power steering and powertrain control modules. The other updates shown would be nice to have done at the same time but because the tech isn't really getting paid to do those you may end up with those still outstanding. All the doors take about 2 mins apiece and about 3-4 mins for the HVAC.

Mike
Thank you, Mike. They said they would need it through tomorrow. I asked for an update in the morning. At least, it is being done. Will see if they go all the way to then end now.

This was not just for BC, I am one of the ones that got stuck on the 1.7.1 OTA so they need to do that first. And they better do the doors, as I can not open the driver's side passenger door unless I open the driver's door first.

I just called my service manager about this program letter and I asked when they can schedule my car for the update. I was told it might be 60 days before they have a spot for my car.

In other words, no OTA, Piss off! I guess this coming weekend I will be buying another FDRS license and doing it myself.

Thanks Ford for dragging ass while Job 1 turns into Job 0.

My sister worked for a Ford dealership as a mechanic when she was younger. Here are the takeaways she told me about being a car mechanic at dealership:

1) It's cutthroat. If you don't have the proper tools you won't get jobs to work on. No one else will loan you tools. Ever notice that the Snap Tool truck always seems to be nearby?

2) Even though the book says it takes X hours to complete a job you'd better complete it in less than X hours. Significantly less.

3) Once a mechanic is good and knows the ropes they leave. Either they start their own shop or work for an independent mechanic making more money and not having to deal with the cutthroat politics.

Not all dealerships are this way but the structure is set up to make this the easy way to run a dealership.
I never worked at a Ford dealer, but I spent 20 years as a dealer service tech. Much of what your sister told you aligns with my experience.
I would add that it is exceedingly rare for a tech to have their own VCM and computer. Those are typically owned by the shop and shared by the techs. Having enough to go around is not usually a priority for the dealer. The computers tend to be hand me downs from the sales department.

The doors are included in 21P22, as are the OBCC, BCM, and RFA, so those should be done as well. With any luck, they'll just keep going down the list and do them all. But we know how that often goes.
What is the change to the doors? And how bad do I need it?

Are most techs independent contractors?

I never even thought of that? I thought they were hourly employees of the dealership?

Not technically, but it is very similar. Dealer techs are required to have their own basic tools. The shop supplies the specialty tools. Techs are paid on the flat rate system, so most warranty jobs are not desirable.

Very few auto dealers pay their techs by the clock hour.

Well, since it took me and a buddy (who also has advanced degrees in Engineering) about 1/2 hour to figure out how to replace the windshield wipers (and sadly, I unknowingly bought the sucky ones), I'd starve as a technician

Would someone be able to run my VIN? It might be interesting (at least for @Ford Motor Company ) to see if all the dealers are applying the same (incorrect) subset of updates.

I can't imagine navigating this confusion without this forum. Thanks for everyone's help here!
