I think some of the PAAK flakiness has to do with Job 1 vs Job 2 cars and the state of software on each car.

Job 2, 3 months in, PAAK has worked most of the time. I've occasionally had to enter a passcode (no issues with the prompt showing up). A couple of times I've used the code on the door to get in. Occasionally, the car will unlock, then give me "No Key Detected", and prompt for the passcode. Sometimes, I need to pull up FordPass on my phone.

However, it has been working smoothly lately (couple of weeks since I updated to Android 12). But, given the variety of phones, battery saving stategys, bluetooth implementations, etc, it ovbviously doesn't work consistently for everyone.

I'm happy with it and use it nearly exclusively, and haven't been stranded yet. That said, if I go somewhere unusual, I might grab the fob. Of course, if we take a trip in my wifes car, I grab the extra fob, so we have two keys just in case (lose one, battery dies, etc), since fob aren't infallible either.

I've actually used PaaK less in recent months - I used to use it almost exclusively, now it's a toss up.

I have not done the dealer update for it yet (I was hoping it would have come OTA by now), and it's simply an issue of between sucking up and grabbing the larger fob versus dealing with having to input a password or for the car to recognize that I am standing right next to the driver door. I am just going for the easier route with the fob.

Part of it definitely is I was more excited with the idea of PaaK in earlier months of ownership. I'm sure once I get the PaaK update, I will rely on it more, it's just an issue of path of least resistance at this point, I have no fear of getting stranded, and wouldn't particularly care in driving around town if one day catastrophe struck and I had to take an Uber three miles home.

I did get a good laugh at the person that posted that they had to Uber.
You know Rick, you can mention my name. I know it pains you to do so. I probably have the worst PaaK story here and the only one that I know of where, yes, I had to have an Uber bring me my key. I even wrote a PaaK parody thread because, why not, based on all the hatred for it.

Let it be known that out of 5 months of ownership that's the one and only time I drove with a FOB. I use PaaK exclusively and I love it. I will not carry a FOB and refuse to do so. Sh*t happens and if we base our life on the little hiccups it would be miserable.

But Rick, you know who's laughing even more? Me, because I got a $500 Mastercard from Ford for pointing out the issue and the inconvenience. It took me 2 extra hours to get home, but hey $250 an hour ain't bad!

Setting up PaaK initially was a nightmare that nearly had me giving up, even after reading how-to’s on this forum. After 3 separate sessions, my husband finally got it working. My car and my phone just didn’t want to play nicely together. For a while it was fine, aside from a double-honk incident at my kid’s school drop-off. Then I got a message saying that PaaK had been deleted and neither my husband or I had done it. Now it says I have to set up PaaK again which I'm dreading. I miss the frunk button but find carrying the fob isn't a big deal. I do carry a purse anyway though.
