I thought I read someplace that one of the driver assistance features on the Mustang Mach E (perhaps only on the Premium) is Pedestrian detection with automatic braking. Is that right? If so, does this extend to other creatures? Specifically, I'm thinking about deer. In the area where I live, there's an extremely large deer population, and they seem to enjoy hiding in the brush beside the road at night, then jumping out in front of passing cars and freezing. directly in front of the vehicle.
I have seen a couple of youtuber's who tried this in their Mach e - and it did not work. It gave an audible warning, and then ran over the object(s). no brakes applied. I'm going to try this in a parking lot myself sometime this summer.

Because they're morons. They don't understand how the features work, or don't work. When you try not hitting something in the parking lot, make sure you have your insurance paid for when you hit the object.

This thread is old. There are recent discussions you should seek out and read. Youtube is not how you find out how features work.

Hope someone can speak up on this. I went over to buy that Premium AWD Ext Range. As son and I were test driving I asked the sales person about pedestrian detection and braking. He said it only worked in reverse. Yikes! Because of my age and concern about safety I said that could be a deal breaker for me. This saleman and the technician I talked to earlier both seemed just great guys. The guy said he had tried to get it to detect pedestrians and had not been able to. And did not think it was available.

I decided that I really cannot buy a car without it. But checking on line I see on page 249 it is there. I called the agency, and he and the tech guy are going to check the manual and drive it around town and see if they can get it to activate. I am sure it will be with one of them being the pedestrian and both of them being careful.

I really want to get that car, but my committment to other people's safety means I will only buy a car that has this feature.

Here is the European safety testing video. I assume the NA version is comparable:

Thanks - That is at least an acceptable amount of safety for pedestrians. And if it is that capable now, it should be improving as time has gone by.

The two guys at the dealership went out last night, one playing pedestrian in dark clothes, minimal detection, but got 'better' results this morning. I told them that would be what I expected, they in turn said they learned more about the car and were happy. That is the Port Orchard Ford Dealership, they all seem to be good guys/gals. And I can deliver my car for service, and take the foot ferry with only a half mile walk.
