My phone set up as a key doesn’t always open, close or start the car. I then need to input the code to start. Any suggestions

Join the club. PAAK is notoriously inconsistent.

*edited after re-reading your post.

The only thing you will hear over and over is to make sure it is running in the background. Mine has a weird issue where it will wake up the car and unlock the doors, but when I go to start the car I get "Key Not Found" or something like that. I have to use the password to start the car in that case.

I find force closing the app, then restarting almost always works

I have found my phone to 're-connect' most reliably if I turn Bluetooth OFF on my phone when walking away....

and turning Bluetooth back ON as I approach, giving it about 10-20 seconds before I get to the car to re-connect.

once you get in the car, put your phone on the center tray right below the console.... do not leave it in your pants or jacket pocket!

I used to force stop the FordPass app to prevent it from eating my phone battery, and then turn it back on approach, but that problem seems to have been fixed around version .33 of the FordPass app

Keep your phone in your right pocket and that should help with the car not starting. The other issues are standard for PAAK.

A keyfob in a faraday bag is an option if all else fails.

It Will get better….you’ll get used to it.

Try loading up the ford app as you’re walking up to the vehicle if your having issues. I haven’t had an issue with leaving the phone in my pocket and starting the car but I can see it being an issue at times. The vehicle is using the signal strength to determine if the phone is within the vehicle. If somethings in the way it could reduce your signal strength enough to make it not work.

They should change the abbreviation to PIAK, pain in the arse key or pretty inconsistent as key.

Why not keep the key fob in the car and use the keypad for secure entry and exit?

That’s what we’ve done on all our Fords… no issues ever again.

I used to work security at a theme park and I know of a few people that got their car stolen doing that and probably more that never admitted it lol.
