So I picked up a drill drive socket in my tire this week. Can’t make this stuff up.! While getting it repaired the shop wanted to sell me new tires. “What, I’ve got 10k on those?” I said indignantly and then I looked at them. There’s maybe another 6-10k left of tread. Is anyone else seeing this? Disclaimer: I drive this thing pretty hard but not like I’m smokin’ them or doing donuts.

I was literally just looking at new tires because my spouses ‘20 Explorer ST needs new tires. The stock Pirellis on the MME GTPE only have a 280 treadwear rating which is comically low. Means about 20k conservative driving miles or about 15k hard driven miles. I’m sure have experienced even less than that. At least our tire size isn’t crazy like the ST’s ?

The OEM GTPE is fitted with max performance Pirelli P Zero Elect summer tires with a 280 treadwear rating. Lots of grip for turning and stopping but you pay the piper my friend. Rotate every 5K to maximize longevity but 20k miles would be doing good.

I've got a set of new, never used OEM GT PE tires I'll sell at a reasonable offer. It was the beginning of an Alaskan winter, so I replaced them with winter tires before I left the dealer. I'm guessing ground shipping from AK will be about $200.

Yes I had lots of fun with my Pirellis.... And junction box #1. They both wore out at the same time.

I’m at 20k now with the Pirellis and they are starting to hydroplane… had the same issue with my 2015 GT and switched to nitto nt555 g2 and those lasted quite a bit longer. I’m going to do the same with the Mach e and see what happens, but have a feeling I may have to swap to all seasons like the contis

I've had a few sets of Pirelli's in the past, and have never had a decent life expectancy with them, as compared to a Michelin or Continental.

Michelin Pilot Sport 4 A/S
Continental DWS 06
Continental CrossContact LX/LX25

These are some of the best tires I've used on my last few vehicles.

Consider Continental ExtremeContact Sport or Michelin Pilot P4S summer tires. Both have 30K mile treadwear warranties that pay on a prorated mileage basis. I’ve you run a staggered setup it drops to 15K miles. They are the only max Perf summer tires with 30K treadwear warranties.

I’ve run both brands on my SS sedan and typically get 22-26K out of them. That equates to a 15-27% discount on the next set. Just make sure you keep tire rotation records.

I had Pirelli P-Zero assymetricos Summers on my 2016 GT. Sure, a lot of WOT 0-60 runs…ie every stop light. The rears last 5500 miles. I went to my normal tire shop and this is what he told me.
1) Summer timers are designed to be driven when the tires are up to temp. in fact there is a warning on theP’s to not drive them unless the road temp and tires are over 60F. As in danger. I live in socal and he recommended only driving on those tires in the afternoon and from May toOctober. The hot months.
2). Wear is Even worse on Pirrellis. They don’t last, but they do grip when good.
3) Summer tires are for people who need absolute grip and will run them hard and hot. Track days. They are not daily driving tires.

Summers are sticky tires when hot, but they disintegrate if driven ” cold”. I switched to Sumitomo Summers and the grip was really good, cost $400 each instead of $600 each and lasted a whopping 10k miles.

he basically told me most people need true summer tires 1%-2% of the time.

The car weighs 5000 lbs with driver in it. Low tire mileage is something we will have to live with.

I purchased a set of pirelli’s a while back.. literally lasted 1 month of occasional aggressive driving. I’ll never buy pirellis again for a daily driver. Stupid expensive for *maybe* a marginal performance gain, although that’s even debatable with some of the direct competitors that have decent tread life rating.
