Hey, at least here in South Dakota we can shoot and eat our State Bird.
Shoot the Hawaii state bird and you go to Leavenworth. We're also not likely to hit them while driving 65. Outside of Volcanoes National Park, they're well away from the roads anyway.

But then again, we don't have a tasty bird as a state bird, just an endangered one. ;)

They are quite prolific North Shore Kauai. But you won't be driving 65 there, still have to watch for them!

The SD State Bird is definitely not endangered. In a good year, we shoot / harvest close to 2 Million.
After a cold tough winter or a cold / wet hatching season, the harvest may go down to less than a million.
Only the male rooster is legal to shoot, so the harvest has little effect on the next year population as the ideal cock to hen ratio is about 1 to 8.

Makes for happy roosters. :)

Canada geese are tasty. I'd think a Nene would be similar ?

Minnesota's state bird is the mosquito...plenty of those on the windshield and no problem with them being endangered!

Yep, and some of them are about big enough to fold your side mirror when hit.

But I have spent enough time in MN to know it is the Loon --- tempted to say that it is an appropriate name for as crazy as things have been there recently. :)
