Powering a Rear Dash Cam (cleanly)?

Running the rear camera cleanly from front to back is pretty easy. 30 minutes max.
I ran the wire along the roof cover and tucked it behind the A pilar with a trim tool. From there I removed the weather stripping on the door and tucked it under neat the roof cover along the driver and passenger door. Then tucked it behind the C pilar and so far and so forth.

I think I posted a video here somewhere. I can try to find it.

One more thing. I wanted a GPS capable camera. Fitcamx doesn’t have that. I’m using a 70mai right now.

Looking at the 70mai right now, seems to be a good bang for the buck option.

I have been using Viofo front and rear since 2018, it's a good product and is built with a capacitor instead of a lithium battery (the lithiums won't take the heat in a parked car on a sunny day, they will expand and self-destruct) I figured this out the hard way and had to throw a few dash cams in the trash.

Viofo has a ton of camera options, prices, installation kits with fuse taps and a stand-by voltage cut off for parked security.
I ran my power cord behind the A pillar (behind the air bag, to reinstall the a pillar you must remove the black clip from the A pillar cover and install it into the body slot first!) to the passenger side fuse box and the rear camera behind the passenger side header trim (also behind the overhead side air bag)

This doesn’t necessarily mean that the power to the mirror is intermittent. According to the wiring diagram, the mirror power is a simple switched circuit. ?‍?

The red wire on the connector to the mirror energizes when the start/off switch turns on assessors.

I am using dongar wtih garmin dash mini. The power is constant. It is your setup having problem.

I have had great success with VIOFO A229 PRO Dual.

The rear camera just uses a single cable which I ran completely inside the ceiling liner (unlike most how-to's in these forums that run it lower with B pillar hell). I added the 90 degree adapter to make the wire a touch neater:

The front is pretty tidy too as there is minimal visible wiring:

Neato, you can also see the rear camera in the rearview mirror at the top of the rear window in this photo as well.

I have it powered from the fuse panel behind the glove box with VIOFO's little device to cut power if the 12VDC bus drops below 12.4V. It has never ever caused my battery to excessively drain.

I shouldn't have bought the fuse taps because the MME uses dual fuses. I ended up buying some from Amazon:

Not sure why everyone goes behind the A pillar while behind the weather stripping is the easiest and safest way. No interference with airbag? And no need to remove hard plastic that can get scratched and break clips.

I had to remove the A pillar to run the rear camera and a few panels in the back also. It's not really a problem if you use the plastic tools made for the job and I did state how to reinstall the clips.
The dealership that did my windshield and roof reseal didn't know how to reinstall the A pillar covers and did have to replace them after their shop monkeys broke them.

Would it be possible for Ford to have a 30 second storage from the 'backup' camera, that only saved the last 30 seconds if there were a significant collision impact? Only while driving, not 'sentry' mode.

Because the weatherstripping is a part that sees movement it subjects any wiring that is run behind it to chafing as the doors are opened or closed or when the body flexes. I chose to run my wiring along factory wiring routes, securing my wiring to the factory cleats or wire ways to prevent that. ?‍?
