Unfortunately the OTA system is far from perfect and only updates a handful of modules. Most modules still require a visit to your dealer or someone with FDRS at home to update. It would be amazing if we could just connect our vehicles to WIFI and hit "Update Now" and get the latest and greatest. Perhaps one day...OK, so I’m a newbie here … but I thought the whole point of OTA software updates was so you never (normally, at least) have to go to bother going to your dealership to stay current. Avoids wasting both of their time and money — a win-win for owners and dealers.
Are there really software updates that the OTA system will never provide, and therefore require dealer visits? And if so, how does one know when they are available to be installed by one’s dealer?
