Has anyone preconditioned the battery without the charger?

Trying to understand if the hit to the battery from preconditioning is less than just getting in the car and driving (while watching the battery with the arrow down symbol stay on the entire drive).

Has anyone tried this?

Somewhere it was postulated that the car be in the "on" state with a nearby L3 destination programmed to get some preconditioning. Is that suggestion debunked? Surely whether one was moving or stationary wouldn't matter.

If you use the navigation to navigate to a DC fast charger, when you get around 18.6 miles away (30km) it will start to warm the battery.

If it's just nearby, but you're not navigating to it, it won't.
